Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Philip Morgan! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Robert Muller! The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Daniel Bishop and James Ackerman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Muller gets a double leg takedown into Morgan's guard. Muller stopping the sweep attempt from Morgan. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Muller trying to control but Morgan is working from the bottom. Morgan had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Muller defends it easily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Muller stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Morgan swivels though and keeps the full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Muller trying to control the position from guard on top but Morgan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
That's one minute gone in the round.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Muller changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Morgan looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Morgan explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there! Morgan tries to sprawl but Muller drives through with a takedown into half guard. Morgan has one foot on Muller's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Morgan gets caught napping as Muller dives in and scores a takedown. Morgan manages to retain guard. Morgan looking for a guillotine here but Muller defends easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Morgan keeping full guard, as Muller tries to pass. Muller showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Muller trying to control the position from guard on top but Morgan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Morgan is trying to control the position but Muller postures up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Muller trying to control but Morgan is working from the bottom. Morgan escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Muller gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Muller wants to control from the top but Morgan keeps moving.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Muller scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Muller is trying to control. Morgan wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Muller wants to pass the guard but Morgan is defending well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Morgan blocking the ground and pound attempt from Muller. Muller content to control rather than advance. Muller tries to stand but can't do so whilst Morgan controls his leg. Morgan trying to hold on to Muller's head to control him but Muller postures up.
Muller wants to lay and pray for a moment but Morgan keeps working. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Morgan looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Philip Morgan will probably get the nod. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
Muller misses with a double jab.
Muller scores with a takedown into Morgan's guard. Muller tries to free his leg and advance position but Morgan is retaining full guard. Morgan pulls Muller in close to prevent any damage. Muller throwing strikes from guard but Morgan blocks nicely. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Muller trying to control but Morgan is working from the bottom. Morgan looking to hit a scissor sweep but Muller is one step ahead there.
That's one minute gone in the round. Morgan looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Morgan keeping moving, preventing Muller from controlling successfully. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Philip Morgan overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Morgan working for a triangle but Muller defends it easily.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Muller tries to land a front kick but Morgan steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Morgan tries to counter by clinching up but Muller breaks away and moves out of range. Morgan really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Muller changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Morgan gets caught by a brutal right hook which buckles his knees! Morgan tries to backpedal with his spaghettilegs but Muller is headhunting and goes for the kill. A jab and a right hook connect and Morgan buckles badly as his eyes roll back. The referee steps in and saves Morgan!! Morgan is complaining but he was clearly out on his feet. Muller throws his mouthpiece into the crowd. Mmmm spit-tastic.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Robert Muller!
