TWGC 22 (170lbs, D1): Finals - Round 3 PBP Commentary


Coming up we have a welterweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Percy Schmeiser (ranked 3192 p4p, 0 weight class) and Police Officer (ranked 4832 p4p, 451 weight class). Schmeiser comes to the cage accompanied by David vs Monsanto. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

In the red corner, competing out of Rio de Janeiro, with a TWGC record of 24 wins and 5 losses; Percy Schmeiser! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 11 wins and 4 losses; Police Officer!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Robert Douchet and Trevor Gratis.


The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.

Officer clinches up against the cage.
Schmeiser goes for a takedown in the clinch but Officer prevents it.

Schmeiser lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.

Schmeiser has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Schmeiser is taking a breather. Officer says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Officer is not content to let Schmeiser control the position.

Schmeiser is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Officer is not content to let Schmeiser control the position.
Schmeiser is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Officer will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Schmeiser has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Officer tries to buck Schmeiser off but Schmeiser is having none of it.

Schmeiser tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Schmeiser has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Schmeiser slows the pace down.
Schmeiser wants to lay and pray for a moment but Officer keeps working.

Officer regains half guard.
Schmeiser trying to advance position but Officer counters by regaining guard.
Schmeiser looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Schmeiser is pushing down on Officer's leg trying to pass to half guard. Officer is fighting to maintain full guard but Schmeiser has managed to sneak the leg through.
Schmeiser keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Schmeiser wants to pass the guard but Officer is defending well.
Officer controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Schmeiser takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Schmeiser passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Officer!

Schmeiser takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Schmeiser has control of Officer's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Officer regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Officer is squirming around, avoiding Schmeiser's attempts to control the action.
Schmeiser content just to control the position here.
Officer is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Schmeiser trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Schmeiser has control of Officer's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Officer regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Officer is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Schmeiser takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Schmeiser has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Officer's body.

Schmeiser is controlling the position but Officer somehow manages to roll and ends up with half guard.
Officer is not content to let Schmeiser control the position.
Schmeiser tries to pass the half guard into mount. Officer knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Schmeiser controlling the pace.
Schmeiser seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Officer does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Schmeiser takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Officer trying to hold on to Schmeiser's head to control him but Schmeiser postures up.
Officer is concentrating on defense, preventing Schmeiser from advancing position.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Schmeiser's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Schmeiser is looking to advance position but Officer won't allow it.
Officer regains full guard. Nicely done.

Schmeiser trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Schmeiser seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Schmeiser stands and throws Officer's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Officer is looking to regain half guard here but Schmeiser keeps moving and retains side control.

Schmeiser looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
The referee asks Schmeiser politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Schmeiser prefers to stall for the moment though.

Officer is trying to control Schmeiser's posture but Schmeiser avoids it.
Schmeiser trying to control the position but Officer is working away.
Schmeiser is really struggling to control Officer but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Officer felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Schmeiser working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Officer trying to remain calm as Schmeiser controls from the top position.
Schmeiser wants to control but Officer is keeping him busy.

Percy Schmeiser really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Zenith Nutrition (160q/$200) logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
