PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Big Asznee (ranked 2166 p4p, 253 weight class) and Mickey Diaz (ranked 3440 p4p, 366 weight class). Asznee comes to the cage accompanied by The Game. Diaz is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Coming For You, by The Offspring. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Big Asznee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mickey Diaz!
The judges for this bout are Darius Henderson, Eliza Hachem and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Asznee looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Diaz tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Asznee manages to move to mount!
Diaz is trying to stand.
Diaz prevents Asznee from taking his back.
Diaz's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Diaz bucks Asznee off and manages to get back to his feet!

and Diaz connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Asznee tries to score a power double leg takedown but Diaz sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Asznee somewhat.

Diaz fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Diaz throws a combination. Asznee tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Mickey Diaz is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

and Asznee counters with a shoot takedown. Diaz fights it but they end up in guard.

Asznee is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Diaz has escaped the position, nice work there.

Asznee is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Diaz knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Diaz is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Asznee has just dragged him back down to the mat.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Asznee is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Diaz is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Asznee is chipping away with strikes.
Diaz is trying to buck Asznee off.

Diaz sneaks out the side door and pushes Asznee away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Diaz gets caught flat footed, as Asznee shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Asznee is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Asznee stops Diaz from standing up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Diaz is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Asznee slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Asznee goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Diaz has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Asznee but great work by Diaz.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Asznee manages to get back to half guard.
Diaz wants to stand up but Asznee is controlling the position.
Diaz wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Asznee uses the opportunity to regain full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Big Asznee will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Asznee is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Diaz.

Asznee has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Asznee wants to control the pace but Diaz is squirming around nicely.

Asznee moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Diaz has worked his arm free - good work by Diaz!
Diaz is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Asznee is controlling him well.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Diaz takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Diaz wants to get back to his feet but Asznee is dominant here and he's now got Diaz's back!

Asznee is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Diaz has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Diaz is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Asznee off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.

Big Asznee dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


No luck with that takedown attempt from Asznee.
Diaz unleashes a big counter combination but Asznee bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Asznee tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Diaz defends well and Asznee ends up having to push Diaz into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Asznee is looking to take a break and control but Diaz is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Diaz pushes Asznee away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Asznee gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Diaz got a little sloppy there for a moment and Asznee has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Diaz has managed to get both his arms back between Asznee's legs - danger averted.
Diaz wants to get up but he can't break Asznee's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Diaz wants to stand and escape but instead Asznee has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Asznee stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Diaz swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Diaz is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Asznee is controlling him.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Nice defenses there by Asznee.
Asznee changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Diaz tries to avoid it but Asznee manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Diaz to the ground. Diaz escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Big Asznee. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Asznee shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Diaz manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Diaz wants to stand and escape but Asznee is having none of it.
Big Asznee overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Asznee might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

I would just about give that final round to Mickey Diaz.
I think Asznee has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
