Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Eli Book! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gabriel Arges! The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Matti Vanhoillinen and Anni Minnemäki.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Arges misses with a double jab.
Arges throws a sloppy head kick and Book moves out of range easily. Book moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Book lands with a slapping head kick. Book drives through with a takedown into Arges's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Book definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Book wants to control from the top but Arges keeps moving. Book working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Book postures up in Arges's guard and throws a big left but Arges blocks it. Arges is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Arges trying to pass the guard but Book defending well. Arges passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Book!
That's one minute gone in the round. Book has given up his back. Will we see Arges going for some submissions?
Arges is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish. Arges has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Book has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Arges controls the action. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Book trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble. Arges slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Arges looking for the choke from the back. What can Book do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Arges has his opponent's back and is working for the choke. I would not like to be Book right now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Gabriel Arges dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Book scores with a jab to the body. Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Arges lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Book has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Book and we're back underway with a touch of gloves. Book lands with a right hand. Arges lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Book circles away quickly and effectively. Arges has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Book shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Book was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Arges sneaks back into half guard. Book is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Book wants to take a breather but Arges is having none of it. Arges throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Arges slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Book is looking to work some ground and pound but Arges has wrist control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Book throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Arges works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Book throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Arges trying to control the position here. Book trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Book trying to control the position from guard on top but Arges is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Arges can do anything to dispel that myth. Book stopping the sweep attempt from Arges.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Gabriel Arges is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Arges swings widly with a right hand
and Book counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Book. Arges tries to land a sweep but no joy.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Book throwing strikes from guard but Arges blocks nicely. Book stopping the sweep attempt from Arges. Arges is still trying to improve position. Book stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Arges swivels though and keeps the full guard. Arges looking to hit a scissor sweep but Book is one step ahead there. Arges controlling Book's posture. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
That's three minutes gone in the round. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Arges is on top in guard.
Arges controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Arges passes into half guard. Arges controlling the pace. Arges tries to pass the half guard into mount. Book knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Arges moves nicely into side control. Arges looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. You can see the frustration on Book's face as Arges controls the position. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Eli Book dominated that second round. That's time! Book's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!
Book wants to clinch. Book doesn't manage to clinch there - Arges circles away.
Arges throws a lazy body kick and Book cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Arges rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Book counters with a lovely straight right hand! Arges pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Arges tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Book is able to avoid easily. Book drops down looking for a counter takedown but Arges sprawls and moves away. Arges fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Book checks it well. Book uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Arges.
Book fails with an attempt to clinch.
Book checks a leg kick. Arges throws a body kick that misses. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Arges doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Arges swings for the body but Book moves out of range.
Arges has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. Arges tries to land a front kick but Book steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Book attempts a counter takedown but Arges avoids it well and moves away. Arges walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Book checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side. Eli Book is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
That's one minute gone in the round. Book lands a two punch combo.
Arges looks to throw a body kick and Book counters with a stiff right hand. Arges falls off balance throwing a combination
and Book counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Book scores with a leg kick.
Arges pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Book scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Book moves out of range of the body kick. Book appears to be looking for a counter takedown. Book shoots in and drives through. Arges sprawls well. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Book fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Arges avoids it really well and circles away. Book misses with a series of wild punches.
Book's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Book duly obliges. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Arges takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Gabriel Arges seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Book blocks a leg kick. Book moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Arges looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Arges looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. An inside leg kick from Arges misses. Arges swings and misses with a shot to the body and Book counters with a three punch combo that has Arges backing up. Arges nods at Book to acknowledge the strikes. Eli Book is winning the standup battle so far. Book throws a head kick that Arges semi-blocks.
We are yet to see a takedown attempt from Arges in the fight. On paper you would think he is the more dominant ground fighter so let's see if these unusual tactics pay off. Arges on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Arges misses with a body shot.

Arges throws a sloppy head kick and Book moves out of range easily. Arges throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Arges throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Book sees it coming and avoids it easily. Book will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Eli Book. That's going to take a lot out of him. Book moves out of range as Arges throws a body kick.

Arges lands a head kick!
Book could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Book lands a lovely overhand right. Arges throws a sloppy head kick and Book moves out of range easily. A right-left combo lands from Book. A head kick by Arges misses and Book counters with a left and a right that stings Arges. Arges rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Book moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Book connects with a high kick. Book keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Book lands a leg kick that knocks Arges off balance momentarily. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Arges tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Book is able to avoid easily. Arges misses with a straight right. Nice body punch from Book. Arges misses with a few strikes there.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Book gets the takedown into side control. Book throws a strike aimed at the side of Arges's head but Arges avoids it well. Arges manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Arges trying to control the pace. The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. Arges's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Arges is continuing to stall.
And that's the end of the fight! Eli Book showed his dominance in that final round. I think Book has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
