PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ricardo Castillo (ranked 1702 p4p, 78 weight class) and Master Wong (ranked 1956 p4p, 88 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ricardo Castillo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Master Wong!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, George Francis and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Wong throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Castillo was covering up waiting for the punch and Wong finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Castillo wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Wong is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Castillo doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Wong.

Wong is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Castillo is just riding it out for now. Wong eventually gives up the hold.

Wong moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Castillo has worked his arm free - good work by Castillo!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Castillo has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

Wong has Castillo pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Wong pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Castillo tumbling to the mat - Wong dives into Castillo's guard.

Wong has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

That was a close second round but I would say that Ricardo Castillo will probably get the nod.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Horrible takedown attempt by Wong or perhaps it was just good defense by Castillo, which made it look bad.

Castillo leaves Wong with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
It looked like Castillo was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Wong stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Castillo swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Wong is in close to Castillo's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Wong postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Castillo is trying to keep Wong in close.
Wong stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Castillo swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Castillo is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Wong dives into side control.

Wong goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Castillo has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Wong but great work by Castillo.

Castillo has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Castillo stuffs the takedown attempt from Wong. Wong gets slowly back to his feet.
Wong is trying hard to land a takedown here. Castillo sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Wong shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Castillo as he avoids it easily.

Castillo clinches up with Wong and pushes him back against the cage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Wong escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Castillo lands with a good body shot.

and Castillo counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Castillo doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Castillo can't find room to land a body shot as Wong controls the action.

Ricardo Castillo showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Castillo has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
