Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Dillon Hernandez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Evan Powers! The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Marco Blurström and Arvi Lind.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hernandez stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Hernandez lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt. Hernandez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Hernandez gets in close and instigates a clinch. Hernandez looking for a takedown. Powers is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Hernandez can't fight it off and eventually Powers manages to take the fight to the floor. Hernandez looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. Hernandez can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Powers controls the pace. Powers drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Powers jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Powers pushing down on Hernandez's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Powers lands strikes from half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Powers working Hernandez over with strikes. Powers keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Hernandez is trying to stand up here but Powers is controlling him well. Powers seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Let's hope that Powers has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Powers takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Ground and pound from Powers. Hernandez pushes Powers off, looking to escape but Powers dives into side control. He's locked up a kimura now - that was fast! He's cranking on it and Hernandez is forced to tap! The fight is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:52 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Evan Powers! Evan Powers decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
