Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Johnny Pain! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Michael McKay! The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Bruno Lombardi and Lou da Vinci.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McKay doesn't manage to clinch there - Pain circles away.
Pain looks for a takedown but McKay sprawls well. Pain throws an uppercut from half a mile away. McKay sees it coming and avoids it easily. Pain tries to clinch but McKay moves out of range. McKay pushes Pain up against the cage in a clinch. McKay prevents Pain from breaking the clinch. Pain wants a takedown but no success here.
Pain jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as McKay walks away with a smile on his face. Pain gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Johnny Pain. That's going to take a lot out of him. Pain is looking to clinch but McKay is avoiding it.
Michael McKay seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Pain tries a head kick but it misses.
Pain closes this distance looking for a takedown but McKay circles away. Pain fails to land the takedown. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Pain feints and as McKay raises his hands in defense, Pain changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Pain stops McKay from standing up. Pain stands and steps away. McKay gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pain tries to clinch up and McKay counters with a body kick. Pain closes this distance looking for a takedown but McKay circles away. Pain moves in looking to clinch but McKay pushes him off. Pain is breathing heavily. Pain throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around McKay's waist but McKay gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Pain off to one side. McKay fails in his attempt to clinch. Pain wants to clinch and McKay makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick. McKay has managed to clinch.
McKay lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Pain tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. McKay smiles and moves away.
McKay wants to clinch up but Pain keeps it at a distance.
That's two minutes gone in the round. McKay looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. McKay throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Pain trying to hold on to McKay's head to control him but McKay postures up.
McKay tries to stand and escape but Pain is controlling the position. Pain has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. McKay is working away from the top position though. Pain tries to get to full guard but McKay has control of the leg. Pain could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pain is trying to control but can't.
Pain gets full guard. Pain is trying to hold McKay in close to prevent damage but McKay has managed to pass into half guard.
McKay is thwarting Pain's attempts to control the position. Pain tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Pain tries to get to full guard but McKay has control of the leg. McKay is taking a breather. Pain says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. McKay is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Pain is looking for a sweep. McKay is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Pain holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now. Pain moves into full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Michael McKay dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action!
Pain throws a front kick aimed at McKay's knee but McKay avoids it well. Pain wants to clinch and McKay counters with a left to the body. Pain digs a good body shot into McKay's ribs. Pain closes this distance looking for a takedown but McKay circles away. Pain closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Pain is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. McKay looking to throw knees to the head but Pain is blocking nicely.
McKay pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Pain misses with a few strikes there.
McKay throws a sloppy head kick and Pain moves out of range easily. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Pain shoots in but McKay avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pain misses with a double jab
and McKay counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by McKay. McKay is working Pain over against the cage. McKay throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Pains head. Pain tries for a takedown. No joy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Johnny Pain. That's going to take a lot out of him. Pain wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but McKay has him pressed against the cage. Pain is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but McKay is keeping busy. Pain prevents the takedown attempt.
McKay breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Nice takedown defense from McKay. No joy for Pain on that attempt. Pain with a poor takedown and McKay counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. McKay closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Pain takes a knee right on the jaw!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pain is trying to work for a single leg takedown but McKay pulls him back up using the underhooks. A looping hook to the body misses from Pain. McKay does a little dance to reset his feet. McKay lands a head kick. Pain smiles back at him and beckons him forward. Pain fails with a takedown attempt. McKay stuffs the takedown. Pain misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Johnny Pain is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. McKay tries to close the distance and clinch but Pain swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Pain fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. McKay closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. McKay is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Pain can't fight it off and eventually McKay manages to take the fight to the floor. Pain looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pain looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Pain trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage. McKay stopping the sweep attempt from Pain. Pain wants to stand up but McKay is controlling him.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. McKay trying to control but Pain is working from the bottom. Pain has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes McKay off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds. Pain tries to clinch but McKay moves away and McKay holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Pain jumps guard but McKay stands there with Pain around his waist. Pain gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Pain can't break the clinch.
Pain tries to pull guard but McKay holds him up against the cage and eventually Pain drops back down to his feet.
Pain has McKay pressed against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Michael McKay showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!
Pain takes a head kick and keeps coming.

McKay has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Pain is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. McKay prevents Pain from breaking the clinch. McKay tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Pain smiles and moves away.
McKay throws a right hand that Pain ducks under and follows up with a left that Pain also avoids with ease. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Pain avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Pain ducks down and throws a hook to the body but McKay moves away. McKay takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. McKay closes the distance and clinches up with Pain, looking for a takedown. McKay pushes Pain against the cage but Pain circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Johnny Pain has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Michael McKay. Pain lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
It looks like Michael McKay has been cut. Pain has a takedown stuffed.
That's one minute gone in the round. McKay fails with a takedown attempt. Pain scores with a takedown into McKay's guard. Pain slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Pain trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pain is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Pain wants to control from the top but McKay keeps moving. Pain with a flurry of punches that miss.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pain trying to control the position from guard on top but McKay is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Pain is really struggling to control McKay but he's trying to hold on to the position. McKay can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Pain controls the pace. Pain gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. A head kick by Pain misses and McKay counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Pain gets full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. McKay lands a couple of decent looking shots. McKay wants to control from the top but Pain keeps moving. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Pain is on top in guard.
Pain wants to stand but McKay has a closed guard, so he can't escape. McKay is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
And that's the end of the fight! Johnny Pain showed his dominance in that final round. I think McKay has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
