Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between James Gregor (ranked 2272 p4p, 329 weight class) and Yen Askren (ranked 1731 p4p, 261 weight class). Askren has chosen Hello from the Askren Side as his entrance music. James Gregor has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, James Gregor! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Yen Askren! The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gregor scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
It looks like Yen Askren has been cut. Askren lands a really nice looking cross but Gregor seems unphased.
Askren rushes Gregor and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Askren goes for a takedown in the clinch but Gregor prevents it.
Askren misses with a short punch on the inside. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Askren. Askren gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. Gregor is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Askren is in close to Gregor's body, working some short punches and elbows. Askren preventing the sweep. Askren is looking to work some ground and pound but Gregor has wrist control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Askren postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Askren working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Gregor preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Gregor seems keen to control Askren's posture. Askren distracts Gregor with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Gregor trying to control the position here. Askren postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Askren slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Gregor pulls Askren in to control the position.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Askren misses with a right hand and Gregor counters with a lovely straight right hand! A slow jab from Gregor misses its intended target. Gregor lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Askren circles away quickly and effectively. Askren drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Askren throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Askren trying to control the action but Gregor is working from the bottom. Gregor managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Askren.
That's three minutes gone in the round. What's Gregor going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle. Askren postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Sloppy strikes there by Askren. Askren throwing shots but missing, from side control. Askren misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Gregor parries the strikes from Askren easily there. Askren is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Gregor to escape.

Askren with the ground and pound but Gregor regains half guard under the barage of strikes. Gregor blocking the ground and pound attempt from Askren. Gregor desperately trying to maintain half guard. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Askren misses with a head shot. Gregor uses the momentum to regain guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Yen Askren dominated that round. The cut man is working on Yen Askren's cut. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Gregor is trying to hold Askren in close to prevent damage but Askren has managed to pass into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Askren thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Askren has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Askren wants to take a breather but Gregor is having none of it. Askren sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Gregor defending well though.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Askren lands a jab to Gregor's midsection. Askren shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Askren looking to pass the guard. Askren in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Askren throwing strikes but missing. Gregor pulls Askren in close to his closed guard and prevents Askren from doing any damage or advancing position. Gregor keeping full guard, as Askren tries to pass.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Askren throws a big elbow that misses. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Askren misses the jab. Gregor lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Askren circles away quickly and effectively. Askren shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. That's four minutes gone in the round. Askren thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Gregor's head. Gregor blocking the ground and pound attempt from Askren. Gregor controlling the position for now. Askren sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Gregor defending well though. Gregor avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Askren. Gregor keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Gregor regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Askren. Askren with a flurry of punches that miss. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Yen Askren showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Yen Askren's cut. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Gregor bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. James Gregor is winning the standup battle so far. Askren waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Gregor. Gregor looks to throw the jab but Askren is out of range. Askren digs a good hook to Gregor's body.

Gregor is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Gregor definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Gregor landing some decent shots from guard. Gregor with a flurry of punches that miss. Askren trying to keep a closed guard but Gregor is proving a slippery customer.
Askren controlling the position. Askren is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Askren thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Askren is keen to just control but Gregor is a slippery customer. Askren prevents Gregor from improving his position. Askren perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Askren is pressing down on Gregor's thigh, looking to free his foot. Gregor is holding on for now. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gregor blocking the ground and pound attempt from Askren. Askren slips a nice elbow through Gregor's hands, connecting with Gregor's forehead. Askren wants to take a breather but Gregor is having none of it. Askren throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Gregor wants to control but Askren is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Askren looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. A shot to the liver by Askren. Beautiful body shot. Askren scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Gregor doesn't seem bothered though. A big right from Askren misses.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Askren misses with a left hand and Gregor counters with a nice uppercut. Askren throws a combination. Gregor tries to block but a couple of punches get through. Gregor keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Askren steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Gregor. Askren connects with a body shot. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Gregor misses with a right hand and Askren counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Askren gets a double leg takedown into Gregor's guard. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Askren is in close to Gregor's body, working some short punches and elbows. Yen Askren is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Askren. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man. Gregor doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

And that's the end of the fight! Yen Askren comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Askren has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
