PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Julius Wolf (ranked 2513 p4p, 282 weight class) and Jorma Suoro (ranked 4450 p4p, 431 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jorma Suoro was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Julius Wolf!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jorma Suoro!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Ben Watson and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Suoro throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Suoro lands the left hand.
Wolf with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Suoro to score with a decent uppercut.
Suoro ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Suoro throws a solid leg kick but Wolf takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Suoro.
Wolf ducks under a wild hook from Suoro.
Wolf slips a jab from Suoro.
Jorma Suoro seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Suoro pivots, looking for a leg kick but Wolf is out of range and Suoro settles back down.
Suoro swings and misses with a hook to the body.
An attempted straight right counter from Wolf misses the target.

Wolf closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Wolf lands in his opponent's guard.
Suoro keeping full guard, as Wolf tries to pass.
Wolf seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
We've been hearing good reports from Wolf's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Wolf slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Suoro throws a jab but it's blocked by Wolf.
Suoro stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Suoro wants it to stay on the feet.
A little jabbing left from Suoro on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Julius Wolf. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Suoro punishes Wolf's body with a nice straight punch.
Suoro fails to land with a series of punches.
Wolf shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Suoro swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Wolf dives in and scores a takedown into Suoro's guard.

Suoro really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Wolf. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Wolf is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Wolf wants to control but Suoro is keeping him busy.
Suoro wants to control the action here but instead Wolf manages to pass to full mount!
Wolf misses with a head shot.
Suoro tries to hold on but Wolf postures up.
Wolf wants to control the pace but Suoro is squirming around nicely.
Wolf looking to ground and pound but Suoro is blocking nicely.
Suoro is squirming around, avoiding Wolf's attempts to control the action.

Wolf thowing shots but they're missing.
Suoro is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Suoro wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Wolf.
Wolf sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Suoro defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Wolf.
Wolf lands a couple of good shots and Suoro has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Julius Wolf will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Wolf is trying hard to land a takedown here. Suoro sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Wolf shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Wolf was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Julius Wolf overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Wolf throws a strike aimed at the side of Suoro's head but Suoro avoids it well.
Wolf tries to score with some ground and pound. Suoro controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Wolf is staying tight to Suoro's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Wolf throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Suoro works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Suoro tries to get to full guard but Wolf has control of the leg.

Wolf is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Suoro is just riding it out for now. Wolf eventually gives up the hold.

Wolf working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Suoro is refusing to be controlled, as Wolf sits in half guard.

Wolf is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Suoro defends it well.
Suoro trying to hold on to Wolf's head to control him but Wolf postures up.
Wolf looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Wolf wants to control but Suoro is keeping him busy.
Ground and pound from Wolf.

Wolf thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Suoro's head.
Wolf looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Suoro with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Wolf throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Wolf trying to control the action but Suoro is working from the bottom.
Wolf is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Suoro can do to turn this around?
Wolf is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Suoro is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Wolf is looking for a kimura but Suoro is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Wolf to get the leverage.
Wolf lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Wolf is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Suoro is controlling Wolf's trapped leg to prevent Wolf from advancing to side control.
Wolf wants to take a breather but Suoro is having none of it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Wolf maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Suoro could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Wolf has cracked it and Suoro is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Wolf!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Julius Wolf!
Julius Wolf was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
