PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Soul Shadow (ranked 1308 p4p, 163 weight class) and Feihck Tiote (ranked 1319 p4p, 167 weight class). Shadow comes into the arena with Shadow and Soul - Red blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Soul Shadow!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Feihck Tiote!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shadow throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Tiote sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Tiote takes one on the chin but seems OK.

Shadow clinches.

Tiote turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Shadow can't do much from the bottom here.
Shadow is looking for a sweep.
Shadow prevents Tiote from improving position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tiote is staying tight to Shadow's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Shadow tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Tiote wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
We've been hearing good reports from Shadow's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Tiote is looking to take a break and control but Shadow is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Tiote is stalling here. Shadow is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Tiote seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Shadow has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Shadow swings around for an armbar but Tiote sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Shadow's guard.

Tiote seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Tiote tries to free his leg and advance position but Shadow is retaining full guard.

Shadow has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Tiote can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Tiote's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Tiote passes Shadow's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Tiote is trying to control. Shadow wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Tiote got a little sloppy there for a moment and Shadow has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Tiote has managed to get both his arms back between Shadow's legs - danger averted.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Shadow thows a left - swing and a miss!
Soul Shadow is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Tiote changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Shadow tries to avoid it but Tiote manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Shadow to the ground. Shadow escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Tiote tries to clinch but Shadow moves away
and Tiote takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Feihck Tiote will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Tiote shoots for a takedown but Shadow saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Shadow closes the distance and pushes Tiote back into the cage.
Shadow misses with a body punch.
A head punch on the inside from Shadow fails to land.
Shadow gets underhooks to prevent Tiote's takedown attempt.
Shadow struggles to land a body shot inside as Tiote controls his hands.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Shadow.
Tiote has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Shadow is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Soul Shadow has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Feihck Tiote.

Tiote tightens his grip and picks Shadow up, before dumping him to the ground. Shadow manages to land in guard.

Tiote wants to pass the guard but Shadow is keeping the position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Shadow pushes down on Tiote's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Shadow is just content to waste time from the top position. Tiote takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Feihck Tiote has got the better of the ground game so far.
Tiote trying to control but Shadow is working from the bottom.
Tiote stands up over Shadow, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Tiote trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Shadow isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Tiote stacks Shadow on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Tiote!
Tiote moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

Tiote throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Tiote tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
The strikes coming from Tiote are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Feihck Tiote showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Tiote.
Tiote shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Shadow but Shadow pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Soul Shadow has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Feihck Tiote.

Tiote is taking a breather. Shadow says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Tiote is keen to just control but Shadow is a slippery customer.
Shadow tries to roll over but Tiote keeps him under control.

Tiote is looking to advance position but Shadow won't allow it.

Soul Shadow has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Tiote is looking to advance position but Shadow won't allow it.

Shadow is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Tiote pulls his head out easily.
Shadow won't allow Tiote to pass to mount.
Shadow gets full guard.
Tiote is looking to work some ground and pound but Shadow has wrist control.
Tiote slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Tiote defending well as Shadow loads up on a big left hand.
Shadow throws a sloppy head kick and Tiote moves out of range easily.
Tiote drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Shadow defends it well.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Tiote gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Shadow lands a jab.
Shadow misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Tiote.
And Tiote tries to counter it with a takedown but Shadow pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Shadow lands a lovely overhand right.
Soul Shadow is winning the standup battle so far.

Feihck Tiote is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Shadow gets underhooks to prevent Tiote's takedown attempt.
Shadow is pressed up against the cage. Tiote has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Shadow down to the mat. Shadow avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

And that's the end of the fight!
Soul Shadow showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Tiote has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
