Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jose Kostocheck! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jon Tate! The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Skip Squint and Eliza Hachem.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kostocheck feints and as Tate raises his hands in defense, Kostocheck changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Kostocheck throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Tate works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Kostocheck in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Tate working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Kostocheck. Kostocheck won't allow Tate to sweep him here. Kostocheck working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Tate is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Kostocheck working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Tate striking from his own guard. Kostocheck in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Kostocheck throws a strike but Tate rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Tate trying to control but Kostocheck is working from the bottom. Kostocheck lands a couple of decent looking body shots there.

Kostocheck is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Kostocheck misses with a head shot. Tate uses the momentum to regain guard. Kostocheck trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Tate throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kostocheck accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Tate utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Tate avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Kostocheck throwing strikes but missing. Kostocheck is looking to work some ground and pound but Tate has wrist control. Kostocheck is breathing heavily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Kostocheck shoots in looking for a takedown. Tate tries to sprawl out of it but Kostocheck keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Tate manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Tate pushes Kostocheck up against the cage in a clinch. Tate turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Tate working the head and body with strikes. Tate advances to full mount. Tate controlling the pace for now. Tate landing shots from mount. Tate working Kostocheck over with strikes here. Tate looking to finish Kostocheck with some ground and pound. This is bad for Kostocheck! Tate scoring with strikes but Kostocheck is staying in there.

Tate really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kostocheck. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Tate working away from the top, dropping strikes. Tate lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Tate takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Tate landing punches. Tate is in the full mount, landing strikes. A nice elbow there by Tate. Kostocheck on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Kostocheck tries to get out of the position. Jon Tate dominated that round. That's time! Kostocheck's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Kostocheck has a takedown stuffed. Tate shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Tate showed some decent athleticism there. Kostocheck tries to get to full guard but Tate has control of the leg. Kostocheck actively working from the bottom here. Jon Tate has got the better of the ground game so far. Tate working over Kostocheck with some ground and pound. Kostocheck looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Tate stands up out of the half guard. Tate darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Tate in particular looking to stall. Tate frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Tate breaks from Kostocheck's wrist control and lands an elbow. The referee warns Kostocheck that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Tate. Tate changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kostocheck looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Tate controls the position.

Tate thuds his right hand into Kostocheck's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Tate gets in close and instigates a clinch. Kostocheck drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
