PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dustin Assad (ranked 3295 p4p, 382 weight class) and Hank Jones (ranked 22393 p4p, 647 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 8 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dustin Assad!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Hank Jones!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Assad throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Assad throws a body punch but Jones moves out of range.
Assad misses the jab.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Jones!


It looks like Dustin Assad has been cut.
Jones avoids a punch combination nicely.
Jones throws a right hand that Assad ducks under and follows up with a left that Assad also avoids with ease.
Jones tries to clinch up but Assad circles away and keeps his distance.
Assad pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Jones back to the cage. Assad follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Assad looks to land a left hand but Jones moved out of range nicely.

Jones's coach down at BIGISLAND BIGGUNS WARRIOR TRAINING was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Jones's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Assad closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

The referee asks Jones politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Jones prefers to stall for the moment though.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Dustin Assad.
I think Assad has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
