Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Doug Bell (ranked 231 p4p, 9 weight class) and Japa Koniu (ranked 545 p4p, 23 weight class). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Doug Bell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Japa Koniu!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Koniu fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Koniu lands with a thumping leg kick.
Bell avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Koniu misses with a double jab.
Bell was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Koniu misses with a shot to the body
and Koniu takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
An inside leg kick lands from Koniu.
Koniu uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Bell has time to react.
Bell fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Koniu manages to avoid it.
Koniu connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Bell takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
The fighters circling - Bell throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Koniu buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Koniu shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Koniu throws out a loose jab but Bell uses good head movement to avoid it.
Bell swings for the body but Koniu moves out of range.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bell throws a series of punches but Koniu avoids them all with ease.
It seemed like Koniu was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Koniu misses with a wild combination.
An attempted straight right counter from Bell misses the target.
Koniu misses with a double jab
and Bell counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
A telegraphed right hand from Bell misses the target.
Koniu looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Bell fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.


It looks like Japa Koniu has been cut.
Koniu fails to land with a series of punches.
Koniu pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
An attempted straight right counter from Bell misses the target.
Koniu misses with the combination.
Bell lands a really nice looking cross but Koniu seems unphased.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Koniu misses with the body kick
and Bell counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Koniu does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Bell tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
A slow jab from Bell misses its intended target.
Koniu scores with a jab.
Japa Koniu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bell fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
As Bell backs off Koniu throws a huge counter combo but Bell manages to avoid it all.
Bell throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Bell checks a low kick from Koniu.
Koniu looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Bell misses the shot to the body.

Bell looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Koniu wants to stand and escape but Bell is having none of it.
Bell seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Koniu can do anything to dispel that myth.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bell lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Bell scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Koniu wants to stand but Bell is controlling the position.
Bell passes Koniu's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Bell slips a nice elbow through Koniu's hands, connecting with Koniu's forehead.
Koniu really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bell. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Bell moves into full mount! Koniu won't be happy about that!
Bell tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bell wants to control the pace but Koniu is squirming around nicely.
Koniu really wants to buck Bell off and get back to his feet.
Koniu in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Bell cracks Koniu with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Koniu wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Bell lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Koniu is squirming around, avoiding Bell's attempts to control the action.
Bell is landing with some decent strikes but Koniu is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

That has opened up Japa Koniu's cut even more.
Koniu in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Bell lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.


The cut above Japa Koniu's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Bell tries to control but Koniu wriggling away.
You get the feeling that Koniu really doesn't like being in this position too much.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Bell looking to finish Koniu with some ground and pound. This is bad for Koniu!
Bell won't let Koniu get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

Japa Koniu's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Japa Koniu's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Doug Bell!
