PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joel Romero (ranked 1020 p4p, 158 weight class) and Larry Kramer (ranked 1054 p4p, 170 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Joel Romero!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Larry Kramer!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Nard Betker and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kramer throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Romero stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Kramer throws a looping overhand right but Romero ducks down to avoid it.
Kramer ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Romero moves away.
Kramer paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Kramer thows a left - swing and a miss!
Romero fails to land the takedown.
A shot to the liver by Kramer. Beautiful body shot.
Kramer connects with a jab.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Romero closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Kramer misses with a looping left.
Kramer misses with an uppercut.
Romero changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

Kramer drops Romero with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Romero looks back up at him and smiles so Kramer waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.


Romero is rocked!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Romero takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Romero staying out of range there.
Kramer keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Kramer is looking to clinch.

Romero gets the takedown into side control.

Romero is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Kramer knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Romero tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Romero thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Romero is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Kramer knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Romero works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Romero is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Kramer is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Kramer is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Romero scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Kramer to see if he's OK.
Kramer prevents Romero from moving into mount.
Romero throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Romero working the ground and pound but Kramer is defending the strikes.

Romero wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kramer, who protects the arm well.

Romero is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Kramer is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Romero lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Romero advances to full mount.
Romero unloading with bombs!
Romero lands with some strikes.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Romero landing strikes from the mount and Kramer is in trouble!

Kramer has left one of his arms exposed and Romero doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Kramer screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Joel Romero!
