Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Josh Gates (ranked 5623 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Newman (ranked 5622 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Albert Achterberg and Aafke Stam.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gates tries to sprawl but Newman drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Gates slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Newman trying to control the position from guard on top but Gates is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Newman drops back, looking for a kneebar! Gates looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Gates looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Gates!
Newman is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Gates off and has taken his back!
Gates is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Newman gets his way!
Newman is striking well from the back but Gates escapes and manages to control the positon and works his way to half guard. A much better position - the crisis is over for the time being.

Newman is taking a breather. Gates says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
