Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Josh Gates (ranked 5623 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Newman (ranked 5622 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Josh Gates! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mark Newman! The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Albert Achterberg and Aafke Stam.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gates tries to sprawl but Newman drives through with a takedown into half guard. Gates slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Newman trying to control the position from guard on top but Gates is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Newman drops back, looking for a kneebar! Gates looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Gates looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Gates! Newman is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Gates off and has taken his back! Gates is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Newman gets his way!
Newman is striking well from the back but Gates escapes and manages to control the positon and works his way to half guard. A much better position - the crisis is over for the time being.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gates is looking to improve his position.
Newman is taking a breather. Gates says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Gates tries to get to full guard but Newman has control of the leg. Newman lands with a punch from half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Newman is taking a breather. Gates says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Gates might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Newman is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Gates! Gates regains half guard. Gates really is a fat lump. Gates is looking to escape. Newman working the head and body with strikes. Newman looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Gates is looking to escape. Newman prevents Gates from improving his position. Newman wants to pass to mount but Gates is defending the position. Gates makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Gates.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Newman pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Gates is keeping the position for now. Newman working some strikes from top position. Gates avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Gates looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Newman puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Newman passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Gates! Newman raining down shots from the mount! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mark Newman dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Newman drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
It looks like Josh Gates has been cut. Newman trying to control the position from guard on top but Gates is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Newman is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Newman has been the more effective fighter overall so far. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gates looking to hit a scissor sweep but Newman is one step ahead there. Newman tries to stand but Gates is controlling from the bottom. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Gates wants to get back to his feet but Newman is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Gates rushes Newman and presses him up against the cage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Gates dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage. Newman gets a trip takedown into half guard. Newman is working for a submission of some sort.
Newman tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Gates. Newman is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Gates defends it well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gates is in trouble now - Newman has advanced to mount! Newman looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.

Josh Gates's cut is getting worse. Gates is trying desperately to improve position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Newman controlling the pace for now. Newman with a couple of short strikes. Gates tries to hold on but Newman postures up. Newman sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Newman working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mark Newman showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Josh Gates's cut. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!
The fight moves into the clinch position. Gates throws a head punch that misses. Newman decides to pull guard. Newman doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Newman keeping moving, preventing Gates from controlling successfully. Newman throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

That's one minute gone in the round. Gates prevents Newman from getting back to his feet. Newman is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Gates gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Newman gets a double leg takedown into Gates's guard. Newman trying to control but Gates is working from the bottom. Newman controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gates is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Newman wants to get up but he can't break Gates's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Gates keeping moving, preventing Newman from controlling successfully. Newman lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gates looking to control.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Gates scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Gates trying to control the action but Newman is working from the bottom. Gates controlling from side mount. Newman is looking to reverse the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Newman wants to control but Gates postures up. Newman is looking for a sweep. Newman takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Newman sneaks back into half guard. Gates is controlling the pace.
Josh Gates has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Mark Newman is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Newman controlling the position well. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
