PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sung Puckett (ranked 6340 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Ambrose (ranked 4235 p4p, 403 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sung Puckett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Ambrose!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Chris Downing and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Puckett tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Ambrose paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Puckett really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Ambrose fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Puckett, pushing him back against the cage.
Ambrose taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Puckett wants to break free but Ambrose has control.
Puckett fails to pull guard.

Ambrose has Puckett pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Ambrose pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Puckett tumbling to the mat - Ambrose dives into Puckett's guard.
Ambrose loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Puckett looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Puckett not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Puckett bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Ambrose's guard.


That's one minute gone in the round.
Puckett connects with a couple of short punches.
Puckett stopping the sweep attempt from Ambrose.

Ambrose pushes Puckett off and gets back to his feet.
Ambrose shoots in for a takedown but Puckett shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Puckett tries to clinch but Ambrose is having none of it.
Ambrose connects with a leg kick. Puckett looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Ambrose is defended easily by Puckett.
Ambrose goes for a double leg but Puckett avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Puckett continues to drive forward.
Puckett feinted with a counter takedown.
Sung Puckett has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mike Ambrose.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Ambrose clinches.

Ambrose drags the fight down to the ground.
Puckett is in close to Ambrose's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Puckett postures up.
Puckett postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Puckett working some strikes from top position.
Puckett throws a strike but Ambrose rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Puckett working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ambrose doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ambrose manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Ambrose works a leg free and moves into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Puckett is trying to control but can't.
Puckett has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Puckett is looking to improve his position.
Puckett is holding on to half guard well.
Puckett is refusing to be controlled, as Ambrose sits in half guard.
Ambrose seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Ambrose tries to pass the half guard into mount. Puckett knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Ambrose stalling away here and it's allowed Puckett to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Puckett manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Ambrose manages to get himself to full guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Ambrose is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Puckett scoring with punches to the head and body.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ambrose controls Puckett momentarily but Puckett frees himself.
Puckett throwing strikes from guard but Ambrose blocks nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Ambrose dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Ambrose looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Puckett is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Sung Puckett is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Ambrose changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Puckett looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Ambrose looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Puckett is avoiding damage well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
You can see the frustration on Puckett's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Puckett holds on tight, trying to prevent any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ambrose wants to control but Puckett is keeping him busy.
Puckett regains half guard.
Ambrose works his way into full mount!
A nice elbow there by Ambrose.
Ambrose cracks Puckett with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.


Puckett is rocked!
Ambrose controlling the position easily from mount.
Oh Puckett is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Puckett tries to hold on but Ambrose postures up.
Puckett takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Ambrose's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mike Ambrose!
