PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Carson Duke (ranked 24572 p4p, 0 weight class) and Davo Davies (ranked 5518 p4p, 621 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Carson Duke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Davo Davies!
The judges for this bout are Darius Henderson, Bruno Hogan and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Duke gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Davies.


It looks like Carson Duke has been cut.
Davies throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.

Davies feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Duke working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Davies.

Duke looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Davies has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Duke looking for a guillotine here but Davies defends easily.

Davies drops back looking for a leg! Duke is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Duke manages to kick Davies off! Davies jumps back into Duke's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Duke lands a couple of shots from the bottom.
Davies trying to control the position from guard on top but Duke is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Davies stands and steps away. Duke gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

and Duke counters with a single leg into guard. Davies didn't expect that.
Davies looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Davies's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Davies is looking to clinch but Duke is avoiding it.
Duke half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

Davies changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Duke looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Duke is looking to reverse the position.
Duke is trying to escape the position but Davies is controlling the position.
Duke struggling a bit here.
Duke tries to buck Davies off but Davies is having none of it.
Duke sneaks back into half guard.
Davies trying to control the pace.
Duke wants to control but Davies is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Davies seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Duke does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Davies wants to stand up but Duke is controlling the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Duke manages to get to full guard.
Duke doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Davies gets to his feet. Duke looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Davies throws a head kick that misses.
Davies bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Sloppy strikes from Davies. Those never looked like landing.

Davies closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Duke avoids the head kick by Davies.

Davies clinches.
Duke tries a knee to the head but he's missed.

Davies pulls guard successfully.
Duke trying to control but Davies is working from the bottom.
Davies trying to keep a closed guard but Duke is proving a slippery customer.
Duke wants to control from the top but Davies keeps moving.
Davies has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Duke won't allow Davies to get back to his feet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Davies throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Duke parries the strikes from Davies easily there. Davies is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Duke to escape.
Duke is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Davies is trying to control the action in half guard but Duke is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Davies wants to pass the guard but Duke is defending well.
Duke is looking to control Davies's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Duke avoid being mounted?

Davies content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Duke is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

That's time! Duke's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


A jab lands there for Davies.
Davies is looking to clinch but Duke is avoiding it.
Davies explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Duke looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Davies doesn't manage to clinch there - Duke circles away.

Davies tries to close the distance and clinch up but Duke swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Duke misses with a straight left.
Davies scores with a decent looking hook.
Davo Davies seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Duke enables Davies to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Duke manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Duke utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Davies wants to control from the top but Duke keeps moving.

Davies is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Duke is controlling Davies's posture.
Davies is stalling in the full guard.

Davies gets to his feet - Duke follows without any prompting.

Davies lands with a nice body kick.
Davies is looking to clinch.
Davies takes a head kick and keeps coming.

Davies shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Davies was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Davies is trying to get an arm triangle but Duke is defending well.
Davies controls the position.

Davies decides to stand back up. Davies steps back and let's Duke get back to his feet.

Davies drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Davies wants to control but Duke is keeping him busy.
Duke wants to control but Davies postures up.

Davies wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Duke, who protects the arm well.

Davies stands up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Davies closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Davo Davies comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Davies has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
