These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Iain Waddell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Miller!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Paul Gruel and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Miller clinches up against the cage.

Miller jumps into guard, dragging Waddell to the mat.
Miller bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Waddell's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Waddell striking from the bottom.
Miller controls from within his opponent's guard.
Waddell is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Waddell wants to stand but Miller is controlling the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Miller slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Waddell looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Miller puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Waddell tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Miller not doing much here.
Waddell is trying to maintain the position but Miller is very close to passing his half guard.

Miller is working for a submission of some sort.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Miller wants to pass the guard but Waddell is defending well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Waddell is looking to improve his position.
Well, if Miller is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Miller's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Miller is looking for a kimura but Waddell is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Miller to get the leverage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Miller seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Waddell is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). John Miller!
