The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Giunta takes one on the chin but seems OK.

It looks like Furio Giunta has been cut.

Giunta is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Giunta is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Surfer is just riding it out for now. Giunta eventually gives up the hold.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Giunta counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Surfer shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Giunta pinned against the cage. Giunta gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

and Giunta counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Surfer thinking.
Surfer will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

and Surfer takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Surfer tries to bum rush Giunta with a series of wild strikes but Giunta uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Surfer throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

and Giunta connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Giunta moves out of range of the body kick.

Giunta shoots in and drives through. Surfer sprawls well.
Surfer scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Giunta doesn't seem bothered though.

Surfer throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Giunta stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Surfer drops Giunta with a left and a right! Oh, Giunta is hurt - Surfer dives into side control looking to finish!

Surfer has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
