PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Guido Gloom (ranked 284 p4p, 42 weight class) and Lucas Marston (ranked 687 p4p, 111 weight class). Marston is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Bring it on motherfucker. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 32 - 21 - 0, fighting out of London, Guido Gloom!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Lucas Marston!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marston misses the shot to the body.
Gloom appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
A nice inside leg kick there by Marston. That's going to slow Gloom down.
A decent looking cross lands there for Gloom.

Marston looks to land a combination but Gloom avoids it well.

Marston feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Glooms jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Gloom closes the distance and clinches up with Marston, looking for a takedown. Gloom pushes Marston against the cage but Marston circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Gloom looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Marston misses with a head kick.

Gloom is rocked!
Gloom shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Oh Gloom is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Gloom closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Gloom seems to have got his legs back now.
Marston is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Marston's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Gloom takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Gloom on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Marston throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Gloom moves out of range as Marston strikes.
Gloom feinted with a counter takedown.
Marston chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Marston stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Gloom drops down looking for a counter takedown but Marston sprawls and moves away.

and Gloom counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Gloom takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Marston throws a hook to the side of Gloom's head but Gloom sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Gloom tries to counter with a takedown but Marston is quick to defend against it.
Marston throws out a powerful jab.
Marston checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Marston has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Marston connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Gloom's hands.
Marston checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
A looping hook to the body misses from Marston. Gloom does a little dance to reset his feet.

and Gloom counters with a single leg into guard. Marston didn't expect that.

Marston bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Gloom's guard.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Gloom had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Marston defends it easily.

Gloom is looking for a triangle but Marston pushes his legs off easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gloom tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Marston stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gloom swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Marston avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Marston content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Gloom wants to improve his position but instead Marston has moved into half guard.
Marston is looking to take a break and control but Gloom is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Marston is controlling the pace.
Gloom tries to get to full guard but Marston has control of the leg.

Marston's coach down at Double XX was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Marston's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Gloom moves forwards but Marston connects with a nice, crisp jab.
The fight stays on the outside here - Gloom looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Lucas Marston is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Lucas Marston comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Marston winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
