Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of

3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Julio Rodrigo! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Matheus Silva and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rodrigo tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Medeiros manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Medeiros looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger. Medeiros dives in for a single leg takedown but Rodrigo sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Medeiros closes this distance looking for a takedown but Rodrigo circles away. Medeiros tries for a takedown but Rodrigo sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lucas Medeiros. That's going to take a lot out of him. Medeiros has his takedown stuffed and Rodrigo counters with a left and a right that stings Medeiros. Rodrigo moves in looking to clinch but Medeiros pushes him off. Medeiros shoots and misses and Rodrigo counters with a nice body shot. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Medeiros tries a head kick but it misses.
Medeiros closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Rodrigo has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Rodrigo looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Rodrigo throws a nice looking combination but Medeiros bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Rodrigo scores with a nice head shot. Rodrigo slaps away a takedown attempt from Medeiros, before circling back to the center of the mat. Medeiros has closed the distance and engaged Rodrigo in a clinch.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Rodrigo wants to stand but Medeiros is controlling his posture from full guard. Medeiros seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Rodrigo wants to stand and escape but instead Medeiros has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Medeiros slips nicely into half guard. Medeiros thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Medeiros is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Rodrigo has managed to free his arm - good work. Rodrigo wants to get back to his feet.
Medeiros stands up and beckons Rodrigo to join him on the feet. Medeiros closes the distance and pushes Rodrigo back into the cage.

Medeiros is working for takedown but Rodrigo is calmly controlling the position for now. Rodrigo has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Rodrigo tries to circle away but Medeiros has him pinned against the cage. Medeiros breaks the clinch.

That was a close round but I would say that Lucas Medeiros will probably get the nod. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Rodrigo tries to clinch up but Medeiros circles away and keeps his distance. Medeiros tries to counter by clinching up but Rodrigo breaks away and moves out of range. Medeiros misses with a straight right. Medeiros changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Rodrigo looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Rodrigo is looking to get back to his feet here but Medeiros is keeping cool and he's managed to take Rodrigo's back. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Rodrigo is trying to stand back up. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rodrigo showing good submission defense here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Medeiros throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Good control from Medeiros. Medeiros has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Medeiros somehow managing to miss with a strike from the back. Rodrigo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Medeiros. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Medeiros has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Rodrigo has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Medeiros wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Rodrigo, who protects the arm well. The strikes coming from Medeiros are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
