PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between lazer Waffle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Carter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Waffle is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, lazer Waffle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Matt Carter!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Gwen Towbar and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Waffle swinging wilding here.
Waffle is breathing heavily.
Carter throws a combination. Waffle tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Waffle doesn't manage to clinch there - Carter circles away.
Good exchange - Carter coming out on top.
Carter lands a head shot.
Carter tests Waffle's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Carter scores with a punch to the head.
A head kick misses from Waffle.
Waffle keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Carter jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Carter scores with a sloppy right hand. Waffle should have avoided that one.

Carter connects with a single shot there.
Jab by Carter.

Carter closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
An elbow from Carter crashes against the mat.
Carter lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Carter lands a few punches from side control.
Carter working the head with strikes.

Carter looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Carter tries to advance to mount but Waffle denies him.
Carter wants to lay and pray for a moment but Waffle keeps working.

Carter looks up at the clock and then as Waffle takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Carter smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Carter stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Carter scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Carter wants to control but Waffle is keeping him busy.
Waffle regains half guard, as Carter was trying to land strikes.
Waffle trying to hold on to Carter's head to control him but Carter postures up.

Carter is keen to just control but Waffle is a slippery customer.
Waffle won't allow Carter to pass to mount.
Carter scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Carter is pressing down on Waffle's thigh, looking to free his foot. Waffle is holding on for now.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Carter punishes Waffle's body with a nice straight punch.
Carter scores with a jab.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Carter drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Waffle wants to stand and escape but Carter is having none of it.
Carter really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Waffle. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Carter content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Carter is looking to work some ground and pound but Waffle has wrist control.
Carter stays in close to Waffle's body and controls the position.
Carter tries to free his leg and advance position but Waffle is retaining full guard.
Waffle wants to sweep here but Carter controlling him for the moment.
Carter trying to control but Waffle is working from the bottom.
Waffle lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Carter!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matt Carter dominated that round.
The cut man is working on lazer Waffle's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Carter shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Waffle as he jumps to the side.
Waffle gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Carter counters with a nice uppercut.

Carter scores a takedown into full mount!

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Carter working for a guillotine from mount but Waffle is in no mood to give up.
Waffle can't escape the position.
Waffle gets back to half guard.

Carter is looking for a kimura but Waffle is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Carter to get the leverage.

Carter is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Waffle is just riding it out for now. Carter eventually gives up the hold.
Waffle is trying to maintain the position but Carter is very close to passing his half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Waffle is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Carter looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Waffle with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Carter slips a nice elbow through Waffle's hands, connecting with Waffle's forehead.

Carter seems to be working for a kimura but Waffle defends the submission attempt.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Nice uppercut lands for Carter. That snapped Waffle's head back.

Waffle misses with a takedown attempt

and Carter counters with a takedown into side control.
Waffle regains half guard.
Waffle has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Carter is working away from the top position though.
Carter wants to lay and pray for a moment but Waffle keeps working.
Carter tries to pass to full mount but Waffle defends it.
Waffle tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Waffle lands with a kick to the temple. Carter shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
A right-left combo lands from Carter.
Waffle tries to close the distance and clinch up but Carter swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Carter getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Waffle has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Waffle there as he acknowledges the shot.

Carter fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Waffle sprawls well initially but Carter persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matt Carter showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on lazer Waffle's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Carter shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Waffle wants to control but Carter is having none of it.

Carter lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Carter cracks Waffle with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Waffle is trying to escape the mount.
Carter breaks from Waffle's wrist control and lands an elbow.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Waffle taking shots to the head.
Waffle is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Carter scores with a couple of good head shots there.

Carter is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Waffle has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Waffle!
Waffle won't allow Carter to sweep him here.
Carter working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Waffle.
Carter will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Carter pushes Waffle off and gets back to his feet.

Waffle tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Carter throws a good cross that connects.
Waffle ducks right into an uppercut from Carter.

Carter darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Carter seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Waffle moves into full guard.
Carter throws a strike but Waffle rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Waffle trying to control but Carter is working from the bottom.
Matt Carter is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Carter holds on and takes a little breather.
Carter is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Waffle wants to control from the top but Carter keeps moving.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Carter is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Waffle trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Carter seems keen to control Waffle's posture.
Waffle looking to pass the guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Matt Carter comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Carter has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
