PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kyle Canning (ranked 3516 p4p, 0 weight class) and Travis Roma (ranked 5453 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kyle Canning!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Travis Roma!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Alec Ball and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown attempt by Canning or perhaps it was just good defense by Roma, which made it look bad.
Canning takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Canning rushes Roma and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Canning is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Canning is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Roma can't fight it off and eventually Canning manages to take the fight to the floor. Roma looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Roma has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Canning off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Roma connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Canning's hands.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Roma lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Canning tries to keep at a distance but Roma has taken the fight into the clinch.

Canning jumps guard.
Roma with a flurry of punches that miss.
Roma throws a strike but Canning rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Canning throwing strikes but missing.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Roma utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Roma wants to get back to his feet but Canning is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Canning stays in close to Roma's body and controls the position.
Canning lands a couple of digs.
Roma controls Canning momentarily but Canning frees himself.
Canning throws a big right hand that misses.
Canning prevents Roma from getting back to his feet.

Canning stands up and waves to Roma to follow him.

Canning feints and as Roma raises his hands in defense, Canning changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Canning cracks Roma with a solid left hand.
Canning postures up and lands a big shot to Roma's brow.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Canning stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Nice sprawl there from Roma as Canning shoots in.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kyle Canning. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Canning tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Roma manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Roma motions for Canning to come forward. Roma throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Canning misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Roma throws a head kick but Canning moves out of range.
Canning attempts a counter takedown but Roma avoids it well and moves away.
Canning shoots for a takedown but Roma saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
It seemed like Roma was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Canning manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Roma on his heels. He'll look to pass Roma's guard now, I'm sure.

Roma has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Canning is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Canning is breathing heavily.
Canning prevents Roma from breaking the clinch.

Canning breaks from the clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Canning fails with a takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Travis Roma will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

and Roma cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Canning is trying hard to land a takedown here. Roma sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
As Canning backs off Roma throws a huge counter combo but Canning manages to avoid it all.
Canning misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kyle Canning. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Roma has managed to clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Canning can't get the takedown.
Canning is trying to pull guard but Roma turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Canning keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Roma's efforts to push away.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Canning jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Roma walks away with a smile on his face. Canning gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Canning shoots in and drives through. Roma sprawls well.
Roma misses with a series of wild punches.
Roma ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Roma connects with a good right hand that stumbles Canning. Canning circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Canning swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Kyle Canning is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Canning tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Roma paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Canning throws a wild hook but Roma just manages to duck under it and - ooooh! Canning gets nailed by a brutal uppercut which crumples him back against the cage! The referee jumps in - Roma raises his hands in celebration and walks away!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:23 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Travis Roma!
A very excited looking Travis Roma made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
