Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jose Correa (ranked 1279 p4p, 159 weight class) and Baeddan MacAuliffe (ranked 1628 p4p, 195 weight class). MacAuliffe is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Notorious by Duran Duran. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jose Correa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Baeddan MacAuliffe!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Robert Douchet and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Correa stuffs the takedown attempt from MacAuliffe. MacAuliffe gets slowly back to his feet.
Correa avoids the body shot from MacAuliffe.
Correa was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
MacAuliffe throws a series of punches but Correa moves out of range.
Baeddan MacAuliffe seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sloppy strikes from MacAuliffe. Those never looked like landing.
It looked like Correa wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Correa keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Correa throws out a loose jab but MacAuliffe uses good head movement to avoid it.
Correa has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Castlemore in the buildup to the fight.
MacAuliffe misses the shot to the body.
MacAuliffe throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
MacAuliffe stuns Correa with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
MacAuliffe shoots in for a takedown but Correa shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
MacAuliffe takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
MacAuliffe lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Correa circles away quickly and effectively.

MacAuliffe shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Correa is trying to defend but MacAuliffe finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Correa tries to roll over but MacAuliffe keeps him under control.

Correa is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
MacAuliffe escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Correa gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Correa drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and MacAuliffe dives on top into guard.

MacAuliffe tries to free his leg and advance position but Correa is retaining full guard.
Correa lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


MacAuliffe is looking for a triangle but Correa pushes his legs off easily.
Correa is working MacAuliffe over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Correa working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Correa keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of MacAuliffe's head.

Correa postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! MacAuliffe is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Correa, into his guard.

MacAuliffe wants to pass the guard but Correa is defending well.

MacAuliffe seems to be working for a kimura but Correa defends the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Baeddan MacAuliffe will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

MacAuliffe throws a sloppy head kick
and Correa counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
MacAuliffe throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Correa's head.
Correa bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps MacAuliffe's head backwards.
MacAuliffe is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Correa rather than just go for the knockout.
Correa looks to land a right hand but MacAuliffe moved out of range.
Baeddan MacAuliffe seems to be getting the better of the standup.
MacAuliffe throws a head kick that misses.
A little feinted left hand from Correa on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
MacAuliffe scores with a one two! Correa had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Oh Correa is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Correa dodges the punch combination from MacAuliffe.
MacAuliffe does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Correa seems to have got his legs back now.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Correa ducks down and throws a hook to the body but MacAuliffe moves away.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Correa enables MacAuliffe to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Correa manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
MacAuliffe wants to pass the guard but Correa is keeping the position.
Correa has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
