PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Zafif Zarimogedov (ranked 5579 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sam Roberts (ranked 5687 p4p, 360 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Zarimogedov shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Roberts manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Zarimogedov sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Roberts's guard.
Zarimogedov thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Roberts's head.

Zarimogedov seems to be working for a kimura but Roberts defends the submission attempt.
Zarimogedov is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Zarimogedov looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Zarimogedov really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Zarimogedov is pressing down on Roberts's thigh, looking to free his foot. Roberts is holding on for now.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Roberts misses with an uppercut. Zarimogedov saw that one coming.
Roberts throws a hook to the side of Zarimogedov's head but Zarimogedov sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Roberts's corner calls for a 1-2. Roberts obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Zarimogedov is rocked!

Zarimogedov closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Roberts wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Zarimogedov has him pressed against the cage.
Roberts is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Roberts is trying to maintain a safe position but Zarimogedov gets an underhook and turns Roberts into the cage.

Zarimogedov ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Zarimogedov no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Zarimogedov has his foot on Roberts's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Roberts works his way back into a safe position though.

Roberts tries to stand but Zarimogedov is controlling from the bottom.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Roberts getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Oh Zarimogedov is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Zarimogedov closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Roberts misses with a straight right.
Roberts looks to throw the jab but Zarimogedov is out of range.
Zarimogedov misses with a head kick.
Roberts throws a looping overhand right but Zarimogedov ducks down to avoid it.

Roberts throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Roberts feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Zarimogedov sprawling to the canvas! Zarimogedov rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Roberts finish him?!

Zarimogedov throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Roberts tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Zarimogedov is in Roberts's guard.
Roberts has a closed guard, preventing Zarimogedov from standing up.

Zarimogedov drops back looking for a leg! Roberts is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Roberts manages to kick Zarimogedov off! Zarimogedov jumps back into Roberts's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Roberts cracks Zarimogedov with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Zarimogedov tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Roberts pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Zarimogedov is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Sam Roberts!
