Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
15 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Luiz Diaz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Power Max! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Robert Twigg and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Max closes the distance looking to clinch and Diaz counters with a right hand to the body. Power Max seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Max misses with a takedown attempt and Diaz counters with a nice uppercut. Max throws a sloppy head kick and Diaz moves out of range easily. Diaz looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Max pushes Diaz off but Diaz dives into side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Max tries to buck Diaz off but Diaz is having none of it. Max takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. Diaz goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Max rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Diaz's guard! Nice work there by Max! Diaz has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Max looking to pass the guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Diaz has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Max is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Diaz. Max is trying to move to mount but Diaz reverses beautifully and ends up in Max's guard. Max is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Diaz is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Max is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Max has escaped and now he's on top!
Max must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Max trying to control the position from guard on top but Diaz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Luiz Diaz will probably get the nod. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Max doesn't succeed with the takedown and Diaz cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Max misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Diaz blocks a jab. Max shoots and misses and Diaz counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Max misses with a takedown attempt and Max takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Luiz Diaz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Power Max. Max is looking to take this fight into the clinch. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Max with a poor takedown and Diaz counters with a lovely straight right hand! Diaz shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Max's guard. Max escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Diaz gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Max has momentary wrist control but Diaz slips an elbow through the middle. Diaz postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Diaz tries to free his leg and advance position but Max is retaining full guard. Max looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Diaz slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Max wants to control the position but that's not easy when your opponent is in side control! Diaz seems to be going for some sort of submission here. Hard to say what - oh, it's a Brabo choke! He's got it! Max is tapping! Wow, great finish!
