Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jesus Sajko (ranked 7059 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Ways (ranked 5641 p4p, 0 weight class). Sajko is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. James Ways has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jesus Sajko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, James Ways!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Robert Douchet and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ways shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Sajko is breathing heavily.
Ways trying to control the position from guard on top but Sajko is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Ways is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Ways working some strikes from top position.
Ways wants to control from the top but Sajko keeps moving.
Ways must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ways keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Sajko's head.
Ways is pushing down on Sajko's leg trying to pass to half guard. Sajko is fighting to maintain full guard but Ways has managed to sneak the leg through.
Sajko is looking to control Ways's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Sajko avoid being mounted?
Ways is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Ways trying to control from half guard but Sajko is working away.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Ways closes the distance and clinches.

Ways drags the fight down to the ground.
Sajko might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Sajko postures up.
Ways wants to sweep but no luck.
Sajko postures up.
Ways is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ways is trying to control. Sajko wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Ways stands up and beckons Sajko to join him on the feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Sajko gets caught napping as Ways dives in and scores a takedown. Sajko manages to retain guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Sajko is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Ways dives into side control.

Ways trying to control the action but Sajko is working from the bottom.

Ways decides to stand up, so the ref orders Sajko to his feet.
Sajko could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Ways.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Ways moves into the clinch.

Ways decides to pull guard.

Ways had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Sajko defends it easily.
Sajko wants to control from the top but Ways keeps moving.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Sajko is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Ways is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Ways dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Sajko does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Ways wants to counter with a clinch but Sajko pushes him away.
Ways closes the distance and clinches up with Sajko, looking for a takedown. Ways pushes Sajko against the cage but Sajko circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Ways shoots for a double leg takedown but Sajko sprawls well. He's pushed Ways's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Sajko tries to keep at a distance but Ways has taken the fight into the clinch.

Sajko is fighting off a takedown attempt but Ways is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Sajko to the mat. Sajko regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Ways advances position into side control!
Sajko tries to improve position but can't.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sajko wants to control but Ways postures up.
Ways has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Ways wants to control but Sajko is keeping him busy.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sajko tries to bench press Ways off him but Ways keeps the position.
Ways wants to control but Sajko is keeping him busy.

Ways has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Ways closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Ways pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Ways moves into range and clinches up with Sajko.
Sajko swings wildly with an uppercut but Ways uses good head movement to avoid it.

Ways gets control of Sajko's arms and successfully pulls guard. Ways will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Ways looking for a guillotine here but Sajko defends easily.
Sajko wanted to stand there but Ways had control of the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ways trying to keep a closed guard but Sajko is proving a slippery customer.

Sajko content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Ways has locked up a guillotine! Ways's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Sajko is holding on here and Ways must be using up a lot of energy. Sajko has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Ways gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
