PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Conrad Calacon (ranked 1206 p4p, 147 weight class) and Jesus Sanchez (ranked 1454 p4p, 167 weight class). Sanchez has chosen Duele El Carazon as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Conrad Calacon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jesus Sanchez!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Russell Pearce and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Calacon clinches with his opponent.
A head punch on the inside from Sanchez fails to land.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Sanchez.
A short right from Sanchez on the inside.
Sanchez misses with a hook from the clinch.

Calacon breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Calacon ducks under a wild hook from Sanchez.
Calacon is looking to counter the offense by Sanchez and move into the clinch.
Calacon misses with a wild body shot.
Sanchez waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Calacon.
Calacon throws a series of punches but Sanchez moves out of range.

Sanchez drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Sanchez postures up in Calacon's guard and throws a big left but Calacon blocks it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sanchez trying to control but Calacon is working from the bottom.
Sanchez with a nice head shot there.
Sanchez stands and throws Calacon's legs to the side, diving into side control.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Calacon wants to control but Sanchez postures up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Calacon stops Sanchez from passing to mount.
An elbow from Sanchez crashes against the mat.

Sanchez tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Sanchez has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Calacon tries to bench press Sanchez off him but Sanchez keeps the position.
Sanchez has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Sanchez throws a strike aimed at the side of Calacon's head but Calacon avoids it well.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Sanchez working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

Sanchez is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Calacon is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Sanchez creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Calacon's coaches at Double XX have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.

Sanchez in side control, throwing shots but Calacon defends.
Sanchez landing a few strikes.
Sanchez trying to control the position but Calacon is working away.
Sanchez is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Calacon is trying to get back to half guard.

Sanchez has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Calacon is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Sanchez yanks on the arm and Calacon is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Sanchez.

An out of breath Jesus Sanchez thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
