Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gil Shaffer (ranked 6229 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Pepe (ranked 5527 p4p, 0 weight class). This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gil Shaffer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Pepe!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, William Peck and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pepe tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Shaffer defends well and Pepe ends up having to push Shaffer into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Shaffer feinted with a counter takedown.

Shaffer drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Shaffer stands up over Pepe, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Shaffer wanted to stand there but Pepe had control of the position.

Shaffer stands up and waves to Pepe to follow him.

Shaffer shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Pepe is trying to defend but Shaffer finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Shaffer is nestled in close to Pepe, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Shaffer looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Shaffer could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Pepe is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Shaffer might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Pepe shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Shaffer as he avoids it easily.

Shaffer bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Shaffer wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Pepe, who protects the arm well.
Pepe is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Shaffer is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Pepe knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Shaffer closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Shaffer is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Pepe has escaped the position, nice work there.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Pepe is trying to control Shaffer's posture but Shaffer avoids it.
