PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Cormac McCarthy (ranked 2266 p4p, 267 weight class) and Teke Bamalog (ranked 1250 p4p, 159 weight class). Bamalog has chosen Stubborn Robot Original Nuttah as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McCarthy swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Bamalog works the jab nicely.
McCarthy blocks the body kick.
Bamalog throws a poor cross that misses
letting McCarthy counter with a right hand.
Bamalog throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
A looping hook to the body misses from Bamalog. McCarthy does a little dance to reset his feet.
A slapping leg kick lands for McCarthy.
Bamalog getting the better of the striking in that exchange.

It looks like Cormac McCarthy has been cut.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McCarthy throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Bamalog on the side of the head.
Bamalog walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. McCarthy checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
McCarthy has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Bamalog dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on McCarthy. That did some damage!

McCarthy attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Bamalog jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Bamalog rushes McCarthy and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
McCarthy makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
McCarthy fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
McCarthy is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Bamalog digs a right hand into McCarthy's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on McCarthy's gas tank.
McCarthy swings wildly with an uppercut but Bamalog uses good head movement to avoid it.

Bamalog lets loose with a powerful body kick. McCarthy will feel that in the morning.
Good work by McCarthy as he checks the leg kick.
McCarthy throws a half hearted mid kick.
Bamalog throws a counter combo.
McCarthy pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Bamalog swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
A big left from McCarthy misses.
McCarthy stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Bamalog.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Bamalog lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
McCarthy looks to land a combination. Bamalog sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Bamalog has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from McCarthy finds it's way round the side to connect with Bamalog's head.
Bamalog walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Bamalog.

McCarthy loads up on a big right hand but Bamalog slips the punch.
McCarthy throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
McCarthy lands with a thumping leg kick.
Bamalog misses with an uppercut
and McCarthy connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
McCarthy misses with a jab, cross combination.
McCarthy walks into a straight right hand from Bamalog.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Bamalog. McCarthy shrugs it off though.
McCarthy goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
A nice side step and Bamalog releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
McCarthy tries to land a front kick but Bamalog steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
and Bamalog counters with a massive uppercut that badly hurts McCarthy! He's just covering up as Bamalog starts to tee off till the referee steps in and stops the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Teke Bamalog!
An out of breath Teke Bamalog thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
