Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
14 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Ronnie Hepple! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
21 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chris Steve! The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Ivan Kurochkin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hepple lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. Steve loads up on a big right hand but Hepple slips the punch. Hepple throws a lazy right hand but Steve sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Hepple feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Steve's calf. Hepple keeps the fight on the outside. Hepple looks to throw the jab but Steve is out of range. Steve cracks Hepple with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Hepple throws the left hand but Steve avoids the punch easily. A jab from Hepple misses. Hepple misses with a hook. Hepple looks to land a combination but Steve avoids it well. Steve tries to clinch but Hepple moves out of range. Steve misses with a lunging right hand
and Steve takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Steve doesn't manage to clinch there - Hepple circles away.
Steve takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Steve scores with a jab to the body. This has been an exciting period of action! Hepple throws an overhand right that lands on Steve's shoulder, as Steve tries to avoid the shot. Steve fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Hepple looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Steve moves into range and clinches up with Hepple. Hepple misses with some punches.

I was talking to Hepple's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Steve. Still in the clinch, Hepple scores with a nice short uppercut. Steve gets through Hepple's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head. Hepple working aggressively here.
Steve tries to work over Hepple's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Hepple lands a shoulder strike. A short left from Steve. Hepple throws a head punch that misses. Steve blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

Steve has been looking to improve his clinch game in recent weeks. Hepple seems to have the measure of him in the clinch so far, so let's see if Steve can turn it around. Steve has a couple of punches blocked by Hepple.
Steve pushes Hepple back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head. Steve swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Hepple tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked. Steve digs a right hand into Hepple's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Hepple's gas tank. Steve throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Hepples head. Hepple goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Hepple throws a punch but it's blocked by Steve. Hepple blocks a body shot from Steve. Steve pushes Hepple back against the cage and unloads with a body punch. Steve lands with a short shot to the head.
Hepple is rocked! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! A head punch on the inside from Steve fails to land. Oh Hepple is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Steve tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Steve lands a body punch. Steve lands with a short head shot on the inside. Steve dips a shoulder and cracks Hepple with a mighty uppercut! Hepple falls back against the cage and Steve unloads with a barrage of strikes! Hepple is completely out with his eyes open, only supported by the cage! Save him ref! Eventually the ref decides to do his job and jumps in - Steve screams abuse at the incompetent official before going over to celebrate with his corner. Brutal stuff!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:17 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Chris Steve! Chris Steve is the new welterweight champion! Chris Steve bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
