10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kim Babbitt ! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Jack Merel! The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Eliza Hachem and Skip Squint.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Babbitt 's jab looks to have found its range, popping Merel under the eye. Merel clinches up with Babbitt and pushes him back against the cage. Babbitt looks to throw an elbow but misses. Merel works on Babbitt 's body with a couple of short punches. Babbitt lands an uppercut. Merel tries to circle away but Babbitt has him pinned against the cage. Nice body punch from Merel. A short right from Merel. We've been informed that Merel has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result. Babbitt misses with an elbow over the top. Merel lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage. Merel doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Nice elbow from Babbitt . Merel takes a shot to the head. Merel tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Babbitt 's elbow. Babbitt pushes Merel back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Babbitt keeps control of Merel as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Merel lands with a short head shot on the inside. Merel blocks an elbow strike from Babbitt .

Babbitt throws a hook but Merel avoids it easily. Nice body punch from Merel. Babbitt throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Merel sees it coming and avoids it easily. Merel uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Babbitt . Babbitt loads up on a big right hand but Merel slips the punch. Merel takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Merel takes a body punch but keeps moving. Merel throws a leg kick which misses Babbitt 's front leg but catches the back leg as Babbitt tries to avoid it. Kim Babbitt seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Jab by Babbitt . A slow jab from Babbitt misses its intended target. Babbitt walks into a straight right hand from Merel. A jab from Merel finds it's way through Babbitt 's defenses. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Merel will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Babbitt scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Merel throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean. Merel clinches. Nice elbow from Babbitt . Babbitt throws a lazy right hand but Merel sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Babbitt throws a nice outside leg kick. Merel attempts a low kick but it misses it's target. Merel slips under a jab. Babbitt misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Merel.
Merel lands a head shot. Merel gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Babbitt pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage. Merel breaks from the clinch.
No joy there for Babbitt , who threw a few shots but didn't land.
An inside leg kick lands from Merel. Babbitt is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all. Babbitt misses with an uppercut. Babbitt is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Merel. Babbitt takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Babbitt is breathing heavily. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Babbitt ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Babbitt looks to land a left hand but Merel moved out of range nicely. Babbitt has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Merel finds it's way round the side to connect with Babbitt 's head.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Merel takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Merel moves into the clinch. Merel tries a body shot but Babbitt blocks it.
Merel tries to work over Babbitt 's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Merel breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Babbitt throws an overhand right that lands on Merel's shoulder, as Merel tries to avoid the shot. Babbitt throws a right hand that misses
and Merel counters with a left to the body. Merel blocks a jab. Merel scores with the left hand. Babbitt knows he should have avoided that one. Merel is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Babbitt had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté. Merel showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Babbitt .
Babbitt takes a swing at Merel's ribcage but misses. Babbitt on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Merel. Merel obviously looking to wear him down.
Merel feints and then cracks Babbitt 's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Babbitt down. The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. Babbitt is looking to land body kicks. Merel ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Merel defending well as Babbitt loads up on a big left hand. Merel throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Babbitt stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Babbitt drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jack Merel dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Merel digs a good body shot into Babbitt 's ribs. Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Merel.
Merel lands a left and a right that send Babbitt crashing to the mat, dazed. Merel thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Babbitt is rocked! Babbitt connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Merel misses the jab. A nice leg kick lands there from Merel. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Merel moves out of range of the body kick from Babbitt .
Babbitt takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. A chopping leg kick lands by Merel. Babbitt thows a left - swing and a miss! We are yet to see a takedown attempt from Merel in the fight. On paper you would think he is the more dominant ground fighter so let's see if these unusual tactics pay off. Babbitt finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

A head kick misses from Merel. Merel misses with a leg kick. Merel fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Babbitt looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Merel lands with a thumping leg kick.
Babbitt throws a jab when Merel was well out of range. Merel throws a leg kick which misses Babbitt 's front leg but catches the back leg as Babbitt tries to avoid it. Babbitt is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight. Merel moves into range and clinches up with Babbitt . Merel wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. An uppercut to the body lands inside from Merel. Merel lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Merel escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Merel connects with a body shot. Babbitt takes a shot right to the bread basket. Merel ducks down into range and throws a picture perfect right hook that connects with Babbitt 's jaw. Babbitt 's eyes stare off into space as he falls to the mat, out cold! Merel does the decent thing and steps back, rather than landing any shots to his unconscious opponent.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:44 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Jack Merel! A very excited looking Jack Merel rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
