PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Publius Sestius (ranked 5151 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hannibal Lecter (ranked 3123 p4p, 0 weight class). Lecter has chosen The Hannibal Lecter Sonr as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Publius Sestius!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 26 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Hannibal Lecter!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Arvi Lind and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A jab from Lecter misses.
Lecter moves out of range as Sestius throws a body kick.
Sestius moves away from the strike by Lecter.
Sestius uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Lecter.
Lecter cracks Sestius with a good jab.
Sestius moves out of range as Lecter strikes.
Sestius is looking to counter with head kicks.
Lecter moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
A swing and a miss from Lecter.
Sestius lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Lecter throws an off balance right hand
and Sestius counters with a straight right hand.
Sestius fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
A nice side step and Lecter releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Lecter has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.

Hannibal Lecter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lecter cracks Sestius with a good jab.

Sestius drives through and clinches with Lecter against the cage.

Sestius's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Lecter shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Sestius wants to get back to his feet.

Lecter slips a nice elbow through Sestius's hands, connecting with Sestius's forehead.
Sestius is positioning himself well to prevent Lecter advancing to mount.

Lecter is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Sestius is just riding it out for now. Lecter eventually gives up the hold.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Sestius is looking to escape.

Sestius makes his way to full guard, as Lecter worked for a kimura.

Sestius is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Lecter's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

Lecter throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Sestius steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Lecter.
Sestius moves in looking to clinch but Lecter pushes him off.
Lecter tests Sestius's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Sestius uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Lecter.
Lecter misses with a hook.
Sestius thuds his right hand into Lecter's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Lecter scores with a nice right hand.
Sestius tries to clinch but Lecter moves out of range.
Jab from Sestius.

Sestius clinches up with Lecter and pushes him back against the cage.
Lecter stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Lecter fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
A head punch on the inside from Sestius fails to land.

Sestius escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Sestius rushes Lecter and presses him up against the cage.
Sestius lands an elbow inside that Lecter shrugs off.
Lecter managing to block the knees to the body from Sestius.
Sestius is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Lecter is defending well for now.
Sestius throws an elbow but it misses.

Lecter is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Sestius is keeping busy.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Sestius tries to clinch but Lecter is having none of it.
Sestius stuffs the takedown attempt from Lecter. Lecter gets slowly back to his feet.
Lecter might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Lecter lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.

Sestius tries to close the distance and clinch but Lecter swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

A head punch on the inside from Lecter fails to land.

Lecter breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Sestius is looking to clinch but Lecter is avoiding it.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Publius Sestius will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Lecter throws the left hand but Sestius avoids the punch easily.
Lecter changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

Lecter looks to land a left hand but Sestius moved out of range nicely.
Sestius went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Sestius pushes Lecter back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Sestius doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Sestius takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

With the two fighters working up against the cage, Sestius just misses with a elbow thrown towards Lecter's brow.

Lecter lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Hannibal Lecter seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Sestius utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.

Sestius drops Lecter with a big knee straight up the middle! Lecter is covering up against the cage but manages to escape and gets back to his feet!

The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Sestius lands a big right hand that drops Lecter! The killer instinct kicks in and Sestius finishes his opponent with a series of strikes from mount. A dominating finish by Sestius!

Our winner, Publius Sestius, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
Hannibal Lecter was interviewed post fight and said 'fuck this shit. I'm out!'.
