The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rutan waving his hands out infront of him, looking to distract Wein. Wein looks to score with a jab to the body but Rutan is just out of range. Wein misses with a hook. Rutan ducked under it nicely. Wein misses with a hook. Rutan ducks under a wild hook from Wein. Rutan misses with a looping left. Nice body punch from Rutan. Rutan tries to clinch up but Wein circles away and keeps his distance. Rutan fails with an attempt to clinch.
Rutan tries to clinch up. Rutan moves into the clinch. Rutan manages to break the clinch.
Wein keeps the fight on the outside. Rutan tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rutan tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Wein swivels and escapes. Wein throws out a powerful jab.
It looks like Seb Rutan has been cut. Wein showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Rutan.
No joy there for Rutan, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Rutan fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Come on Rutan - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Wein gets control of Rutan's arms and successfully pulls guard. Wein will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wein tries to land a sweep but no joy. Wein is working hard here to advance position. Wein looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Wein had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Rutan is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Wein Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Rutan's back instead. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Wein is breathing heavily. Rutan is trying to defend against the choke here but Wein has an arm under his chin. This one might not last much longer. Wein Tightens the hold and Rutan taps out furiously! Wein displays superior BJJ to win the fight.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). John Wein!
