Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Diego Escobar (ranked 47 p4p, 8 weight class) and Kevin Sheedy (ranked 98 p4p, 16 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
17 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Diego Escobar! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
14 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kevin Sheedy! The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Konstantin Menshow and Valeri Chadov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sheedy getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Sheedy misses with a hook. A big right from Sheedy misses. Sheedy misses with a lunging right hand
and Escobar counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Sheedy thinking. Escobar fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Sheedy is out of range. Sheedy tries to counter by closing the distance. Sheedy throws a body punch but Escobar moves out of range. Escobar throws a front kick that sends Sheedy stumbling back into the cage. Sheedy throws a left and a right that both miss
and Escobar counters with a head kick that drops Sheedy - he's looking to finish, following his stunned foe to the ground! This has been an exciting period of action! Escobar is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Sheedy sees it coming and defends easily. Sheedy is refusing to be controlled, as Escobar sits in half guard. Escobar is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Sheedy holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Escobar is working for a kimura but Sheedy is defending it quite comfortably.
Escobar is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Escobar is looking for a kimura here.
Sheedy is trying to control but can't.
Escobar trying to mount his opponent but Sheedy defends it. Escobar looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Escobar is thwarting Sheedy's attempts to control the position. Escobar is trying to control the action in half guard but Sheedy is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Escobar stalling. Sheedy wants to control but Escobar is keeping busy.
Escobar seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Sheedy does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Sheedy is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Escobar is trying for a kimura here. Sheedy looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Escobar wins by kimura!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:23 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Diego Escobar! Diego Escobar retains his featherweight title! A very excited looking Diego Escobar rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
