The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Desmarais is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Desmarais misses with a head kick.
Shaffer tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Desmarais manages to circle out of the way.

and Shaffer counters with a takedown into side control.

Shaffer goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Desmarais has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Shaffer but great work by Desmarais.
Shaffer might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Shaffer is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Desmarais doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Shaffer.

Shaffer has hold of one of Desmarais's legs. Desmarais is fighting the takedown attempt but Shaffer gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

It looks like Gil Shaffer has been cut.

Shaffer throws a big counter combination but Desmarais scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Desmarais lands a brutal head kick. Shaffer looks out on his feet and Desmarais throws more strikes until the ref is forced to stop the fight!
