The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pain darts in and out, connecting with a jab. Honda fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Pain sprawls well initially but Honda persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Pain definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Honda is working for a kimura but Pain is defending it quite comfortably.
Pain is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Honda looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
My spies in JAG Gym inform me that Honda has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Pain is looking to get back to full guard here but Honda has managed to pass to side control instead.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pain tries to buck Honda off but Honda is having none of it. Pain on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Pain tries to get out of the position. Honda working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Pain is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Honda's leg. Oh but that's left an opportunity for Honda! He's got an arm triangle... it looks tight! He's rotating and Pain has tapped! This one is allllll over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:32 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Kazunori Honda!
