Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Oliver Queen (ranked 3794 p4p, 368 weight class) and Alex Mercer (ranked 1770 p4p, 203 weight class). Mercer has chosen Sleep Now In The Fire as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Oliver Queen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 36 - 26 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alex Mercer!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Elvis Blanc and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Queen throws a push kick but Mercer slaps the foot to one side.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Mercer! But no joy.
Mercer on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Queen swings for the body but Mercer moves out of range.
Queen avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
A solid leg kick lands there for Queen.

Mercer's coach down at Far-Q Fight Club was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Mercer's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Queen has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Mercer finds it's way round the side to connect with Queen's head.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Mercer has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Mercer and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Both these guys seem content to just stand up and trade with eachother but Mercer might want to think about changing up his gameplan a bit because over the course of the fight, Queen has got the better of the exchanges.
