PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Aaron Work (ranked 5044 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shane Brolly (ranked 24544 p4p, 0 weight class). Work comes into the arena with Sweet Home Alabama blaring out of the sound system. Shane Brolly told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Aaron Work!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 12 - 0, fighting out of London, Shane Brolly!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Paul Tew and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A big left from Work misses.
Work falls off balance throwing a combination

and Brolly decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Work's guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Work manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Work displaying some good clinch control by pressing Brolly up against the cage.
Work tries to circle away but Brolly has him pinned against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Brolly is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Brolly tries to score a body lock takedown but Work shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Brolly tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

Brolly changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

and Brolly counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Work!

Work bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

A left lands for Work.
Work throws a looping overhand right but Brolly ducks down to avoid it.
Work throws a left and a right that both miss

and Brolly counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Work has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Brolly has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The referee is keeping an eye on Work - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Work is struggling to control the position.
Work is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with Work for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure.
Work has Brolly pushed against the cage.
Work gets a warning from the ref for wasting time.

Work closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Work throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Brolly to regain full guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Work throws a series of punches but Brolly moves out of range.

Work moves into the clinch.
Brolly has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Work avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Work has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Brolly is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Brolly is breathing heavily.
Work is trying to break the clinch but Brolly is controlling him.

Work lands a left hand that snaps the head of Brolly backwards.
Brolly wants to take the fight to the mat but Work manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Aaron Work has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Shane Brolly.

Brolly has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Work is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Work connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Brolly's hands.
Brolly needs to keep his hands up - Work had a free shot at his head there.
Work misses the shot to the body.
Work tries to bum rush Brolly with a series of wild strikes but Brolly uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
And Brolly tries to counter it with a takedown but Work pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Work fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Brolly checks it well.
Brolly is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Work doesn't manage to clinch there - Brolly circles away.

Brolly displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Work throws out the jab.
