Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jonathan Villarreal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mason Dixon!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Jonathan Paton and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dixon pushes Villarreal up against the cage in a clinch.
Villarreal is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Dixon to keep the fight standing.

Villarreal manages to pull guard.
Dixon wants to stand and escape but instead Villarreal has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Villarreal is fighting to break Dixon's control of his arms but Dixon is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Let's hope that Dixon has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Dixon is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Villarreal manages to reverse the position and now he's in Dixon's guard. Nice work there by Villarreal.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dixon working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Villarreal doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Villarreal manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Dixon is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Villarreal is aware though and is defending well.

Villarreal decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Dixon, up you get!

Villarreal has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Dixon lands a nice short elbow.

Dixon must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Dixon decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Villarreal avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Dixon closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Dixon seems to be working for a kimura but Villarreal defends the submission attempt.

Villarreal has his foot on Dixon's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Dixon works his way back into a safe position though.

Dixon shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Villarreal napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Villarreal is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Dixon asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Villarreal is trying to improve his position.

Villarreal srikes from the bottom but he's lost position and has given up his back.
Villarreal turns into Dixon and is now in his guard.
Dixon has Villarreal pulled in close to control his posture.
Dixon controls Villarreal momentarily but Villarreal frees himself.
Dixon lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


Villarreal is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Dixon defends well.
Villarreal will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Dixon is working Villarreal over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dixon is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Mason Dixon showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Villarreal escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Dixon gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jonathan Villarreal.
Well Dixon has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
