Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Shannon White (ranked 2570 p4p, 302 weight class) and Paolo Santos (ranked 4603 p4p, 457 weight class). Paolo Santos will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Shannon White! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Paolo Santos! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Santos misses with a hook. White ducked under it nicely. Santos dodges the punch combination from White.
Santos misses with a wild body shot. Santos gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Santos wants to sweep but no luck. White slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. White working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Santos looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Santos really doesn't want to stay on the ground with White. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. White tries to advance to mount but can't.
That's one minute gone in the round. White wants to lay and pray for a moment but Santos keeps working. White tries for a kimura but Santos is defending well. The referee asks White politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. White prefers to stall for the moment though. White thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. White takes a little break here. Santos wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. White working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. White decides to stand up, so the ref orders Santos to his feet. White darts in looking for a takedown but Santos gets double underhooks and turns White into the cage. White uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Santos.
White looks for a takedown but Santos sprawls well. Santos lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected. Santos throws a head kick that misses. White throws a right and a left that both miss. Santos takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. White tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Santos slips a straight right by White. White misses with a looping right. White misses with a takedown attempt - Santos sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shannon White. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's three minutes gone in the round. White throws a low kick, looking for Santos's leg but Santos calmly moves out of range. White tries a head kick but it misses.
White drives through with a takedown into guard. White wants to control from the top but Santos keeps moving. White gets to his feet. Santos looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Santos throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. White is looking light on his feet compared to last time was saw him fight. White misses with a head kick.
White throws a jab but it's blocked by Santos. Santos tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but White was well out of range. Poor timing from Santos. A looping hook to the body misses from Santos. White does a little dance to reset his feet. Santos misses with a few strikes there.
Santos throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Santos tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. White closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Santos quickly recovers to half guard. Santos looks winded! White keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. White wants to free his trapped foot but Santos is holding on for dear life with his legs. White is trying to work for a kimura but Santos is defending well.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. White looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. White works his way into side control. White taking a breather here. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Shannon White dominated that round. That's time! White's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
White looking to score a takedown here. Santos is defending well but White drives through and ends up in Santos's guard. White controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. White trying to control but Santos is working from the bottom. White passes Santos's right leg, so he's now in half guard. White frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. White has control of Santos's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Santos regains control of the situation pretty easily.
White with some aggressive grappling here, looking for the finish.
That's one minute gone in the round. Santos is desperately trying to improve his position but White has a good base and remains in mount. White has isolated one of Santos's arms. Santos looking to fight him off but White twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!
