Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Corey Mcgraugh! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Curtis Tate Jr! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Robert Twigg and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tate Jr is looking to clinch but Mcgraugh is avoiding it.
Mcgraugh circles away from the clinch attempt.
Tate Jr throws a right hand that misses
and Mcgraugh counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Tate Jr thinking. Mcgraugh avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
A quick step to the side and Mcgraugh tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect. Mcgraugh definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Mcgraugh throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Tate Jr on the side of the head. Mcgraugh with a nice cross. Mcgraugh lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Tate Jr throws a right hand that Mcgraugh ducks under and follows up with a left that Mcgraugh also avoids with ease. Corey Mcgraugh seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Mcgraugh misses with a wild combination.
Tate Jr tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Mcgraugh paws at him with a jab and circles away. Mcgraugh was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit. Tate Jr throws a predictable looking body shot
and Mcgraugh counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Tate Jr tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Mcgraugh counters with a lovely shot to the body. Tate Jr looks winded! Mcgraugh scores with a nice right hand.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mcgraugh scores with a punch to the head.
It looks like Curtis Tate Jr has been cut. Tate Jr drops his guard momentarily, allowing Mcgraugh to crack him with a picture perfect lead left hook! Boom! Down goes Tate Jr! Oh, he's in big trouble - I don't like his chances here as the referee's count reaches 5. 6,7,8,9...10! He's out! Mcgraugh takes it!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:11 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punch). Corey Mcgraugh! Corey Mcgraugh is the new light heavyweight champion!
