Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Virgil Clay! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, James Henderson! The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Colin Fray and Paul Gruel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Henderson darts in and clinches Clay up against the cage. Henderson using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Clay has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Henderson goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Clay can't break the clinch.
Clay successfully pulls guard.
Clay looking to control.
Henderson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Henderson is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Clay wants to stand but Henderson is controlling the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Henderson trying to control but Clay is working from the bottom. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Henderson controls from within his opponent's guard. Clay is trying to keep Henderson in close.
That's one minute gone in the round. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Clay is on top in guard.

Clay is looking to work some ground and pound but Henderson has wrist control. Clay throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Henderson works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Henderson is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Henderson performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Clay makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work! A telegraphed takedown attempt from Clay is defended easily by Henderson. Henderson wants to counter with a clinch but Clay pushes him away. Henderson uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Clay shoots and misses and Henderson counters with a nice uppercut. Clay is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Henderson pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Henderson feints and as Clay raises his hands in defense, Henderson changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Clay is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Henderson is controlling him. Henderson trying to control but Clay is working from the bottom. Henderson sitting in guard here, content to control. Henderson in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Clay wants to stand and escape but Henderson is having none of it. Henderson wants to control from the top but Clay keeps moving.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Henderson's corner is telling him to maintain position. Clay trying to control the position.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Henderson moves into the clinch. Henderson has clasped his hands together around Clay's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Henderson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Clay keeps working. Clay tries to improve position but can't. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Henderson is trying to get an arm triangle but Clay is defending well. Henderson looks winded! Clay tries to improve position but can't. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Clay tries to keep at a distance but Henderson has taken the fight into the clinch. Clay tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked. Clay is trying to pull guard but Henderson turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Henderson has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Clay misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Henderson.

Henderson decides to pull guard. Henderson controls Clay momentarily but Clay frees himself. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Henderson has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Clay has passed into side control.
Clay swings around for an armbar but Henderson sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Clay's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Henderson trying to control but Clay is working from the bottom. Henderson gets to his feet - Clay follows without any prompting. Henderson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Clay appears to be looking for a counter takedown. Clay misses with a head kick.
Clay forces Henderson back against the cage and clinches. Henderson tightens his grip and picks Clay up, before dumping him to the ground. Clay manages to land in guard. Clay is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Clay is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. James Henderson has got the better of the ground game so far.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Henderson stops Clay from standing up. Clay is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Clay wants to sweep but no luck. Henderson wants to control from the top but Clay keeps moving. Clay tries to land a sweep but no joy. Clay keeping moving, preventing Henderson from controlling successfully.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Henderson clinches.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Henderson gets control of Clay's arms and successfully pulls guard. Henderson will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Henderson is breathing heavily. Clay wants to get up but he can't break Henderson's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Henderson working a defensive guard but Clay passes into half guard.
Clay is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Clay scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Clay is working for a kimura but Henderson is defending it quite comfortably.
Henderson tries to roll over but Clay keeps him under control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Clay is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Henderson has managed to free his arm - good work. Henderson avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Clay. Clay scoring with strikes to the body and head. Clay looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Henderson with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Clay lands strikes from half guard. Henderson is looking to escape. Clay missing with the ground and pound from half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Henderson is trying to stick to Clay's back but Clay is turning into Henderson. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Henderson's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Clay. Henderson is looking to sweep but instead, Clay has passed into half guard.
Henderson is trying to maintain the position but Clay is very close to passing his half guard. Henderson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Clay thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Henderson's head.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Henderson desperately trying to maintain half guard. Henderson is looking to control Clay's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Henderson avoid being mounted?
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Clay tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Henderson gets a takedown into half guard. Clay is trying to stand.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Henderson wants to take a breather but Clay is having none of it.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to James Henderson. Well Henderson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
