Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Franklin James White Schmidt! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jimbo Covert! The judges for this bout are William Gold, James Atkins and Colin Fotheringham.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Covert's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Covert duly obliges. Schmidt definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Schmidt uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Covert. Schmidt works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Schmidt gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. Schmidt fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Covert, pushing him back against the cage. Schmidt swings wildly with an uppercut but Covert uses good head movement to avoid it. A short right from Covert. Schmidt prevents a body shot from Covert. Schmidt has a couple of punches blocked by Covert.
Covert lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Schmidt lands with a light punch inside. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Schmidt fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Covert is trying to pull guard but Schmidt has him pressed against the cage. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Schmidt creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Schmidt lands with a short head shot on the inside. Covert blocks an uppercut.

Schmidt swings wildly with an uppercut but Covert uses good head movement to avoid it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Schmidt softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
Covert is rocked! Schmidt swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Covert tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Schmidt just stands there and leans against the cage. Schmidt scores with a shoulder strike. Covert is still on wobbly legs! Can Schmidt finish him? Schmidt lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage. Covert is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Schmidt to keep the fight standing. Franklin James White Schmidt has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jimbo Covert. Schmidt dips a shoulder and cracks Covert with a mighty uppercut! Covert falls back against the cage and Schmidt unloads with a barrage of strikes! Covert is completely out with his eyes open, only supported by the cage! Save him ref! Eventually the ref decides to do his job and jumps in - Schmidt screams abuse at the incompetent official before going over to celebrate with his corner. Brutal stuff!
