Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Stevie Franchise (ranked 5922 p4p, 505 weight class) and Marco Polo (ranked 13694 p4p, 603 weight class). Franchise's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Microphone Fiend- Rage Against the Machine. Polo is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: On The Floor. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
14 - 17 - 0, fighting out of New York, Stevie Franchise! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
15 - 32 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Marco Polo! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Cecil Peabody and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Polo tries to close the distance and clinch but Franchise swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Polo closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
It looks like Marco Polo has been cut. Polo is looking to clinch. Polo bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Franchise's head. Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Polo. Polo tries for a takedown but Franchise circles away easily and Polo takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Franchise misses with a jab, cross combination.
Franchise digs a good body shot into Polo's ribs. Polo takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Polo avoids a low kick by using good footwork. Polo steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Franchise. Franchise lands with a shot to the body. Franchise cracks Polo with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Polo looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Franchise finish him?
Polo is rocked! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Franchise misses the shot to the body. Polo is still on wobbly legs! Can Franchise finish him?
That's one minute gone in the round. Polo gets a clinch. Polo is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. Polo seems to have recovered his senses. Franchise breaks from the clinch.
Polo tried to score with a low kick but Franchise checks it. An attempted straight right counter from Franchise misses the target. Franchise lands a right hook to the body.
Franchise swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Polo tries to counter with a clinch but Franchise shakes him off and moves away. Franchise lands a big head kick that sends Polo tumbling to the mat! Franchise takes a step backwards and waves Polo back to his feet - he wants the finish! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Nice takedown defense from Franchise. No joy for Polo on that attempt. Franchise throws a big counter combination but Polo scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage. Polo uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Franchise. Polo clinches up with Franchise and pushes him back against the cage. Franchise breaks the clinch.
Stevie Franchise is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Franchise slips under a jab from Polo.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Franchise misses with an uppercut. Marco Polo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Franchise connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Polo has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Franchise fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Polo manages to avoid it. Polo is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch. Polo slips a jab from Franchise. Good shot there by Franchise. Polo uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Franchise. Franchise connects with a body shot that sends Polo's belly button to the back. Polo is trying hard to land a takedown here. Franchise sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Stevie Franchise has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marco Polo. Polo fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Franchise avoids it really well and circles away. Franchise appears to be looking for a big counter. Polo tries to clinch but Franchise moves away and Franchise counters with a nice right hand that sends Polo toppling to the canvas! Polo scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Franchise finish him?!
That has opened up Marco Polo's cut even more. Polo throws a poor cross that misses
and Franchise counters with a huge left! Polo is in big trouble! He's backing up but Franchise isn't giving him chance to recover. Under a barage of punches the ref has to step in to save Polo from any more damage. A dominating finish by Franchise!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Stevie Franchise! Stevie Franchise really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Voodoo Nutrition logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
