PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Andy Bangsit (ranked 1158 p4p, 181 weight class) and Jari Bull (ranked 1791 p4p, 270 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 15 - 1, fighting out of London, Andy Bangsit!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jari Bull!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Phil Schofield and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown attempt by Bangsit or perhaps it was just good defense by Bull, which made it look bad.
Bull swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Bangsit misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Bangsit throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Bull's waist but Bull gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Bangsit off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Andy Bangsit. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bull lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Bangsit throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Bull's waist but Bull gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Bangsit off to one side.
It seemed like Bull was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Bangsit closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Bangsit lands in his opponent's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bull preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Bangsit drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Bangsit jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Bangsit wants to pass the guard but Bull is keeping the position.
Bull is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Bangsit is controlling him.
Bangsit stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bull swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Bull is controlling Bangsit's posture.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Bangsit doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Bull makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Bangsit shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Bull counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Bangsit closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Bull wants to get back to his feet.

Bangsit is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Bull is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Bangsit prevents Bull from standing back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Bangsit is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Bull tries to get to full guard but Bangsit has control of the leg.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Andy Bangsit will probably get the nod.
That's time! Bangsit's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Bangsit shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Bull as he jumps to the side.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Bull throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Bangsit throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Bull was covering up waiting for the punch and Bangsit finishes the takedown easily into guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bangsit is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Bull is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Bull has escaped and now he's on top!

Bull wants to stand but Bangsit is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.
Bull is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. Bangsit is in real trouble.
My spies in Team Croatia inform me that Bull has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Bangsit manages to reverse the position and now he's in Bull's guard. Nice work there by Bangsit.

Bangsit has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Bull leaves Bangsit with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Bull holds on and takes a little breather.

Bangsit has gone for a leg lock! Bull slips out almost immediately though and dives into Bangsit's guard.

Bull postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Bangsit to stand up.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Bull manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Bangsit is trying to drag Bull to the mat but Bull just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

A head punch on the inside from Bull fails to land.
A nice right hand lands inside from Bull.
Bull prevents the takedown attempt.
Bangsit drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Bull gets the underhooks and prevents it.
A nice left hand lands by Bull.
Bull lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Bull gets through Bangsit's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

Bull will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Bangsit up against the cage.
Bull lands a left hand that snaps the head of Bangsit backwards.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jari Bull comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Bull has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
