Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Manny Perez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Patrick Ronson! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Perez uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Ronson has time to react. Ronson takes a jab right on the kisser.
Ronson tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Perez bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Ronson's head backwards. Manny Perez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Perez lands with a nice body punch. Perez tests Ronson's chin there with a solid looking shot. Jab by Perez. Ronson wants to clinch. A shot to the liver by Perez. Beautiful body shot. Perez circles away from the clinch attempt.
Perez swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Nice shot by Perez. Perez misses with a few strikes there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Jab, jab by Perez - just one landing.
That's one minute gone in the round. A jab from Perez does it's job there. Manny Perez is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Ronson doesn't manage to clinch there - Perez circles away.
Perez changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. A momentary lapse in concentration from Perez enables Ronson to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Perez manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Perez has momentary wrist control but Ronson slips an elbow through the middle. Perez is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Ronson is controlling him. Ronson controlling from the top position. Ronson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Perez swivels though and keeps the full guard. Perez wants to stand up but Ronson is controlling him. Ronson stays in close to Perez's body and controls the position. Ronson slips nicely into half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Perez is trying to stand.
Ronson is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Perez has managed to free his arm - good work. Ronson prevents Perez from standing back up.
Ronson decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet. Perez lunges at Ronson with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Ronson's hand. Ronson takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Perez misses with a straight right. Ronson ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Ronson looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Perez throws a lazy uppercut
and Ronson counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Ronson. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Perez is wriggling around but Ronson manages to pass to half guard.
Perez tries to kick Ronson off but Ronson keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ronson controlling the pace. It looks like Ronson might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Perez is trying to escape back to his feet but Ronson uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Perez is trying to stand and escape here. He's got onto all fours but that's just let Ronson take his back! Uh oh - Ronson has got a rear naked choke here! Perez is forced to tap! It's all over! One monent is all it takes in this sport!
