The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lu darts in trying to clinch so Wali counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Lu preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Lu is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Wali is aware though and is defending well. Wali sitting in guard, not really doing much. Lu is looking for a triangle but Wali pushes his legs off easily.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Lu can do anything to dispel that myth. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Lu looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Wali passes into side control.
Lu really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Wali. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Wali looks up at the clock and then as Lu takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Wali smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Wali really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lu is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Wali is one step ahead and moves to full mount! Lu is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes. Wali can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Lu is looking to escape. A nice elbow there by Wali. Wali avoids the attempt from Lu to control. Wali sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lu wants to control but Wali is having none of it. Wali throwing shots from mount but they're not landing. Wali swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Gato Wali! Our winner, Gato Wali, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
