PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Badou Baha (ranked 967 p4p, 147 weight class) and Eugeniy Petrov (ranked 615 p4p, 92 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Baha might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Vegedream. Badou Baha is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Badou Baha!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 10 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Eugeniy Petrov!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Reed Andrews and Dean Styles.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Baha throws an off balance right hand
and Petrov counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Petrov has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Petrov throws an overhand right that lands on Baha's shoulder, as Baha tries to avoid the shot.
Petrov keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Baha.
Baha throws a predictable looking body shot

and Petrov counters with a shoot takedown. Baha fights it but they end up in guard.
Petrov wants to pass the guard but Baha is keeping the position.
Petrov is still trying to improve position.
Petrov sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Petrov trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Petrov with a flurry of punches that miss.
Petrov stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Baha swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Baha striking off his back but it's not causing Petrov any problems.
Petrov won't allow Baha to sweep him here.
Baha wants to stand up but Petrov is controlling him.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Petrov bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Despite the aggression on Petrov's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
A head kick by Baha misses

and Petrov counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Petrov.
Petrov trying to control but Baha is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Baha pushes Petrov off and scrambles back to his feet.
Nice straight punches there by Petrov. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Petrov.

Petrov defending well as Baha loads up on a big left hand.
Baha misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Petrov.
Baha looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Petrov shoots in looking for a takedown but Baha manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Petrov's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Petrov jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Petrov scores with a jab to the body.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
A low kick from Baha misses

so Petrov counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Petrov throwing strikes but missing.

Petrov is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Baha is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Baha has escaped and now he's on top!

Petrov is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Baha defends well.

Petrov is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Baha tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Petrov manages to move to mount!
Baha tries to buck Petrov off but he can't manage it.

Baha reaches up and pulls Petrov towards him, trying to control the position. Petrov manages to get a guillotine from the mount though! This could be big trouble for Baha! Baha tries to roll over - now Petrov is on the bottom but the guillotine is really deep and Baha has to tap out! Great work there by Petrov!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Eugeniy Petrov!
Eugeniy Petrov decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
Badou Baha was interviewed post fight and said 'Be back soon my fans.'.
