Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Donny Hammerson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Meng Rao (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hammerson fails with an attempt to clinch.
Rao scores with a takedown into Hammerson's guard. Hammerson is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Hammerson looking to hit a scissor sweep but Rao is one step ahead there. Hammerson looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Hammerson looking for a sweep. Not yet Hammerson, not yet. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Hammerson is on top in guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Rao can do anything to dispel that myth. Rao escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hammerson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Rao is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hammerson trying to control the position from guard on top but Rao is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Hammerson with a flurry of punches that miss. Rao has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hammerson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Rao wants to control the position but Hammerson says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hammerson works his foot free and advances to mount. Rao wants to try and get back to his feet. Hammerson has hold of Rao's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Rao manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Rao is looking to improve his position but Hammerson isn't that keen on the idea. Hammerson with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Hammerson jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Rao manages to avoid the submission attempt. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Rao is not in a great position here, taking some shots. Rao wants to control but Hammerson postures up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rao is trying to get back to half guard. Hammerson trying to control the action but Rao is working from the bottom. Rao is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Rao really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hammerson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Hammerson looks for a takedown but Rao sprawls well. Rao scores with a takedown into Hammerson's guard. Rao stands and steps away. Hammerson gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Hammerson stuffs the takedown attempt from Rao. Rao gets slowly back to his feet. Rao swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rao throws a jab but it's blocked by Hammerson. Rao takes a swing at Hammerson's ribcage but misses. Rao dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Hammerson scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Hammerson working the head and body with strikes. Hammerson wants to control but Rao is keeping him busy. Hammerson is breathing heavily. Rao is trying to buck Hammerson off. Hammerson looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Rao is trying to get back to half guard. Hammerson cracks Rao with a big right hand but Rao just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Hammerson wants to control but Rao is keeping him busy.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Rao throws a wild body kick that Hammerson sees coming a mile off. Hammerson takes a jab right on the kisser.
Hammerson blocks a head kick by Rao.
Rao fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Rao shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Hammerson's guard. Hammerson looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Rao trying to control but Hammerson is working from the bottom. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hammerson doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Meng Rao dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Rao throws a right hand that Hammerson ducks under and follows up with a left that Hammerson also avoids with ease. Hammerson shoots and misses and Rao makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Excellent takedown into side control there by Rao. Hammerson takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Rao connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Hammerson some visible discomfort.
Rao slows the pace down. Rao working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Hammerson is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Rao wants to stand but Hammerson has his arm trapped. Rao wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Hammerson, who protects the arm well. Rao is breathing heavily. Hammerson manages to work his way to half guard, despite Rao's best efforts.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hammerson looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Rao thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Hammerson's head. Rao trying to control from half guard but Hammerson is working away. Rao is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Hammerson sees it coming and defends easily.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Rao closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Meng Rao showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Rao content to stall in guard here. Rao must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Despite being in the dominant position, Meng Rao just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Hammerson uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Rao.
Rao doesn't succeed with the takedown and Hammerson counters with a nice uppercut. Hammerson throws a nice looking combination but Rao bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Rao misses with a few strikes there.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Hammerson tries to clinch but Rao is having none of it. Hammerson looks to score with a jab to the body but Rao is just out of range. Rao misses with a double jab
and Hammerson counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Rao's guard now. Hammerson drops back looking for a leg! Rao is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Rao manages to kick Hammerson off! Hammerson jumps back into Rao's guard. Rao lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Hammerson! Rao controlling the pace for now.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Donny Hammerson. Well Rao has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality.
